weeeee's build thread

Nice, your 305's look great! I need to get a taller floor jack to mount mine...:cry2: tried last weekend but stacking 2x4 blocks on the jack didn't seem smart. My assistant wasn't helping either!

keeps getting better every day. =)
Any reasons you didn't go for the 3.5BS and drop the spacers on the F5?

I forget the actual numbers, but the 17x9 F5 was the equivalent of running a 35mm spacer on the regular 17x8.5 F5. I wasn't too keen on having to deal with clearance issues in case the 305's didn't work with the 17x9 wheel.

Nice! I haven't been able to air mine down and put them through their paces just yet, probably won't be able to until I hit Nevada next month. I did notice pretty immediately that these are a lot stiffer than the KO2s. I had to drop down to 35psi on my chalk test and to get some similar ride comfort from the 285/70 KO2s.

I usually jack from the center of my engine skid with a floor jack. I did max mine out on the rear diff getting the back tires on though.

Sorry that this is not the best photo to show the true size but its the only true side shot I have.

no need to apologize, this shot tells me all I need to know.

Will be joining the Miami Area Code ranks in the next few weeks, I do believe.

It's next on the list, for sure.

You're now the 2nd guy that tells me it's a good size. Double confirmation works for me, thanks!

4.56 gears with 34" tires is great. A little more on the bottom end, just not going to go as fast without the higher RPM's. Since I have almost always had under powered vehicles, I have grown accustomed to it.

With the 4.56 / 34" combo, I am about 7% lower than stock.

Doing some random re-configurations around the truck now that I have a little downtime. Next trip isn't for a couple weeks. For now, here's a random photo.

I totally meant to take side by side pictures, but I totally forgot because I was running out of shop time at my friends shop. We were literally leaving for Vegas for his bachelor party the next day and I just wanted to get it done, lol.

Anyways, the 6112/5160 are exactly the same shocks from what I can see. There might be a minor difference in valving, but externally the shock and piston is exactly the same. In fact, the Bilstein 6112 spring/shock combo rides exactly the same as the outgoing TRDP suspension.

Here are some of the differences:
- 6112 has 5 perches to allow for added adjustability and lift, original TRDP only has two perches for driver/passenger side leveling.
- 6112 springs are about 1.5" taller than the TRDP springs (TRDP has 12.5" long 3.0" ID springs, 6112 has 14" length springs with the same ID).
- Either shock will allow for standard coilover springs to be upgraded later to compensate for more weight. They use the typical 3" ID coilover spring.

I kept the original TRDP rear shocks but paired them with Toytex Superflex springs for an added 2" of rear lift.

Hope that helped and feel free to let me know if you have any questions.

Thank you. I have been looking for numbers on the spring lengths between both TRD and 6112s.

Just want to clarify you measured your 6112s at 14"?

Yes, 14"x3"ID. 550-600lb spring rate IIRC. Pretty common spring length and size. I still have a pair of 650lb ones in my garage in case you're interested.

Looks like your front tire is coming off the rim.

Yeah it's a weird camera angle and a wide angle lens, makes the outer corners look a little distorted.

I still made it through a 6 hour recovery after that and went to camp and home, I hope its okay lol :noidea:

Joined a few friends including NoOneBetter for a short weekend trip to Black Rock Desert in Eastern Nevada.

Rolled into camp way late on a Friday night, spent too much time at the campfire and having fun.

NoOneBetter's photo of me rolling out of bed pretty much sums up my morning. Yes, I know this is the incorrect way to climb down a ladder.

Hit some pavement, on our way to some trails

Some of the recent rains washed out a few of the trails. Stacked rocks to make it easier to climb.

Thanks NoOneBetter for taking this shot of the truck. Was a little stuffed.

After this, the trail was pretty slow-going. Mud was a bit thick....

After this, we got a bit stuck. I was riding tail in the group just to make sure everyone else got through all the sections. Since I have a mobile HAM unit it really helped with relaying info to the middle guys who were on handhelds.

The 6 hour recovery

We were running through a 30-40yd stretch of sticky mud and second to the last truck (an FJ) got stuck. After winching him back several times and using our Maxtrax unsuccessfully, he ended up burying his axle into the mud. Winching him back did not work, as he was on the verge of tipping every time I pulled back. Using his own winch was out of the question, as he pulled a little too much out of his winch line and it unspooled.

We ended up positioning another rig above him to winch him forward, and me on the side to keep tension on his slider to keep him from tipping further. Then we all got stuck together

Every time we pulled up the Maxtrax, we literally had to dig them out of 6-7 inches of mud with shovels. And get our fingers in the grooves to wipe out the mud because it wouldn't just come out. The last few hours were pretty exhausting. No pictures.

Finally made it back in to camp, rigs looked a little worse for wear the following moning

^^By the way, that wasn’t the FJ that got stuck. He was exiled to the bottom of the hill….

Headed for home, but the trail wasn’t done with us yet. Hit a 300-yd section of mud and water. Decided to just run through it, was better than running back through the 6-hr recovery section from the night previous.

Trail still hasn’t done with us yet. Just as I called out on the radio that we’d made it to the main road, the main road decides it wants to go away.

After walking the washed out section, we decided that it was safe to pass if we stacked a few rocks. The road was washed out in another couple sections, but we passed through with no issues.

Steering wheel was shaking the entire drive down to Reno on account of all the mud in our wheels and suspension. Thank god for coin-op car washes…

All in all, I think I used my winch a good dozen times that trip. We made a few mistakes, but that's ultimately how we learn what not to do next time. I hear the Rubicon is going to be nice this year...j/k

Thanks NoOneBetter for some of the photos, wouldn't be able to tell the complete story without your pics. And MTN4RNR, hope you can hit this one next time, sorry you had to sit it out.
