Weird clicking/knocking

Hey Guys - I started getting a really loud clicking/knocking sound from the engine bay. It is sporadic (Every 2 - 3 min) and it sounds like its coming from the fan but it isn't. It has a vibration sound to it as well.
I am completely stumped. The belts look good ? It happens when I am driving or in park? It's not from the engine but it is something under the hood?
Any ideas?

So - I narrowed it down to a clicking noise from the belt area - it happens when the idle kicks up a little bit. It will go away when the idle drops back down. Any ideas? (It's not from the belts.)

No - it happens on it's own???
It is really starting to bug me!
All the belts are new .... 4mo ... as well as the timing belt. If it was a belt it seems it would be happening all the time. But it is just when the idle kicks up.

Figured out that it only happens when the fan is on for the heater. If I turn the fan off from the dash switch it will go away. Does this mean I have a fan on the way out? It only happens when the idle kicks up.

Is the heater switch in the defrost position? It sound as if you are clicking the ac clutch which clears the windows in the winter. If it is happening on it's own it still could be the ac clutch going so you will need to use a piece of hose to narrow down where the noise is coming from.

It sounds like you may have some debris in the fan. If you have a 4th gen it's a straight shot from the rear of the hood where air enters, to the fan. The only thing in the way is the cabin filter. It's pretty easy to get leaves and other wind blown stuff down there. Take out the glove compartment (it's in the manual under "changing the cabin filter") and have a look. Pull out the filter and run the fan listening for noises. It's an easy job. Good luck.
