weird issue starting

I have a 99 4 runner 4x4. I replaced starter on Thursday which was a pita. Worked fine on Friday and Saturday. I go out this morning to go to work and turn key and get nothing. Am at a loss on what to check next. Any suggestions?.???

Please provide a lot more details on what is going on. What was it doing that lead up to the original choice to replace starter and what is it doing or not doing now? What have you done to diagnose or attempt to diagnose the problem then and now? Did you actually test the old starter to see if it was bad?

Ok I came to replace starter when truck quit working on Thursday morning and it tested bad. So far this morning I have replaced starter relay. I put key in ignition and get all lights and dings I turn key and all lights go out. It has new battery on it also.gonna take it to autozone and get it tested just to besafe. I tried to check voltage with multimeter but idk what's wrong cause I got 0 volts across battery. I have checked all connections at battery and at starter. And they all look good.

0 volts means you have a dead battery. New batteries can still be drained over a couple of days if you did not disconnect the terminals while working on your car. The battery might be able to put out a few amps to light the dash and peripherals but it takes a lot of Amps to start your engine.

You can try charging your battery but if it is still under warranty you should try replacing it with a new one. Keeping a battery at 0 volts for extended periods of time can damage some battery types and decrease its electrical capacity. If you have a spare battery from another car, I would give that a shot too.

Can you test your mulitmeter with a known good battery? Even a AA or 9v battery. It's interesting that your battery was completely drained to an exact 0.

After charging, I'd put your multimeter in series with your disconnect positive cable to check for parasitic lost. Anything more than 50 ma should be cause for concern.

Finally, after starting check your alternator output (just for the heck of it) by testing voltage across both terminals with car running.

Good luck! Charging problems are simpler than most folks make them out to be.
