So, this problem has been going on now off and on for a few months. It has not got to the point I cannot ignore it.
I have a 97 4runner that will not start unless I have a jump. Luckily, someone gifted me a rechargeable battery jumping system that is portable and stays in the truck.
I noticed this initially driving home one day that when I turned the radio on the lights went out temporarily. Radio would turn off, then lights would come back on. All very quickly. At first I thought this seems like an alternator problems. Then when I would go to start it I would get a click and then all electrical power would be lost. So I thought it was corroded connectors at battery terminals. I replaced those and all was good for about two weeks.
Now the problem is back in full force. The truck will not start unless it had the jump pack on it. I know it works when I connect it and I'll hear a small clicking noise. I know that somewhere a connection had been made and it will start. I feel like, based upon the nature of the click upon connecting the jumper and also how the electrical power will shutoff when I go to turn the key that it's a starter problem. However, the problem while the truck is running makes me think it is an alt problem. Could it be alt, starter, battery, a combination of two, or all three of those things? Any help is appreciated. Thanks!!!
