I myself have a dashcam. but it's off when it's parked but for sure will be helpful to catch dishonest people and very useful for insurance claims. you never know, I might catch the next asteroid entering the earth's atmosphere.
I agree, all cars should have a built in dashcam. Toyota, if you are reading this, can you include a dashcam on every new car?

That's why I park in the middle of nowhere in parking lots or at least an end spot (over the line).
I NEVER park beside people unless I absolutely have to, and your incident is exactly why. Take the extra 15 seconds and park at the end of the lot. You get a few extra steps for exercise too.
I did! That's why I think this was someone with a large trailer or something. The paint residue doesn't look like car paint. The big trailers and such usually park out there too because they don't have room anywhere else.

One of the functions of the dashcam that I've recently installed is to take a video when it senses an impact. It has a 140 degree field of view, and it's 1920x1080 resolution.
It would have definitely caught that prick's license plate. I'm positive these things will be in every vehicle soon enough. Sorry, I know it doesn't improve your situation.

It happened on Home depot premises, sue them.

Right now, it's about going to get an estimate for the damage. I haven't filed a claim yet because it might wind up costing me more to go though insurance in the long run (by the time they raise rates and all). It really just sucks that can't catch the a-hole. Like you've all said - if it winds up being 2 or 3 grand I'm better off just getting a new bumper that'll make the next a-hole pay for it with damage to their own vehicle! I'm thinking this is probably about a thousand in damage, which means I'll either live with it, or fix it out of my pocket.

....Besides - Without video evidence or witnesses, I can't prove it happened there.

If it had been the front I would have gone the new bumper route. I have not seen a rear bumper that I like.

It's the same most places I think. They won't respond to a parking lot ding unless someone is hurt.
That sucks man. At least mine is in the front so bumper replacement is a real alternative. I just need to go get a quote.
I'm assuming you're not being serious... but just in case:
For the slip and fall, Home Depot might have an obligation to prevent or at least warn of ice on walkways, so they might be responsible if you slip on ice. Likewise, Home Depot might have a duty to regularly clean up the carts from their parking lot and they might be responsible for damage to your car if a cart hits your car as a result of Home Depot not gathering the carts (despite the signs they put up to the contrary).
Home Depot does not have a responsibility to make sure that some jerk knows how to drive a trailer. Now, if that jerk was a home depot employee (or maybe even driving a trailer rented from Home Depot), then that would be a different story (and may explain the lack of security camera footage).

Sorry about your bumper, that really blows!
Most retailers have a strict policy of NOT making surveillance videos available to the public. If they have cameras, they most likely have the footage. They will only make the footage available to the authorities.
That's the route you have to go, or just report it to your insurance and move on.
People are *******s, but I firmly believe that nothing in this world is free or goes unpunished. Maybe this dude has herpes by now or something, lol.

Same thing happened to me in an Ikea lot years ago--caved in the rear driver-side door of our VW. Impressive bit of piss-poor driving. We went back into the store and they reviewed their tapes but the spot we were in parked in was about two spaces out of the range of the cameras. In that case, parking further out was a liability. Then about two weeks later, it happened again in another lot at another store...so frustrating.
