Well, this is unusual.

Dang, this sucks to see. I know you were thrilled to find that toyota shop (as any of us would be!). Hopefully they can fix it up soon.

I do find it odd the way your temps went. Personally, I'd prefer running a few degrees warmer engine wise than a few degrees AT wise. But like yourself, a Trans Cooler is on the way.

Good luck and hopefully it's a simple quick fix.

12 miles down the road. I've tried to get in contact with them, but no dice. It says they are closed today, so I might just be S.O.L.'d. I've got to wait until the apartment manager leaves his post to crawl under with some tools... I hate living in Apartments.

Same reason why I hate living in an apartment.

That stinks living in an apt. When I lived in two different ones, I had a gas backpack and blew the parking lot in which my building was. I blew the lot once a week and the manager let me work on cars on the weekends. The other time in a different city I changed the manager's oil and kept her tires inflates. Ditto that the DIY work was only performed on the weekends.

What may have happened is that one of the studs that holds that thermostat housing onto the H20 pump may have come loose, thus a tight seal can't be made. It does require draining the coolant for a fix. Or possibly someone forgot to install a clamp around a hose (I have been there before).

Good luck.

Are you guys not allowed to work on cars at your apartments?
In the apartment i lived in this last summer i installed my first lift, sound system, retrofits, and many other small mods.

I know it's in good hands. I might be getting frustrated, but I trust these two gents to get in back into work, non leaking order.

He removed lower radiator hose, drained all coolant from radiator & block. We inspected the thermostat, and o-ring, and all look good oddly enough. It was the expectation that this would be the problem, but does not seem to be. An outlet with a tube, directly connected to that inlet by the thermostat (hard to describe without visual aid) was though, not fully secure with it's hose clamp, and some should of it was exposed. There going to go back at it tomorrow and try to get in buttoned back up. Hopefully on the road by the end of the week.

Yeah, same here. The hottest I got it today was 191 engine temp, and about 152 transmission temperature. It's definitely displaying different characteristics than the OEM radiator, but then again, this Denso doesn't have a built in radiator (at least I don't think), so it seems to warm up slowly and cool down slower. I believe a Trans Cooler will help elevate some of my worries.

Thanks for chiming in!

Nope, a fine would be assessed. I wish I could, but it's just not worth it. Moving out in June and can't wait! Back up North I go.

Might as well keep ya'll entertained. From today's visit...

MCObray What did your issue turn out to be? I just installed my new radiator today and I'm having the same issue, trans temp hit an all time high of 230(!) afterwards.

I did, new thermostat last month when I did the TB & WP. Looks like mine was a bit low on trans fluid. Hoping to verify that was my issue tomorrow.

Jiggle valve had to be rotated from 12 o'clock to 6 o'clock. 12 o'clock position was running 203-205. 6 o'clock position is now running 190-193. I installed a brand new OEM thermostat along with the other slew of parts that went in a few months back. I got the transmission temp up to 212 the other day cruising threw a few mountain passes on I-5. As soon as I crested the hill, I would slowly creep back down to 150-155 degrees. No sweat here.

Are you guys replacing the Thermastat along with the other parts? I didn't see it listed.

Yup, replaced at the time of doing the Timing Belt & Water Pump.

I had a HELL OF A TIME trying to determine the transmission fluid level. I double checked around 20 times, follow the correct procedures & write-ups, and resulted varied. I lost a bit when the transmission cooler was added, but I certainly added what was lost and then some. I told myself to stop being paranoid, as I tend to fixate over any and every thing with my vehicle. My trans temps have been in 130-150 range, with the exception of of highway passes & and stop-go traffic.
