Went to start the 4R today and all it does is click...

Hit the key and all the dash lights flicker along with the clicking.

I tried to hook up the charger and the guage on the charger just clicks back and forth as well. What's up?

Sounds like a bad battery to me. Did you disconnect the battery from the 4R before hooking up the charger? If not, try that.

Make sure the terminals aren't dirty/corroded - and even if they look good, clean them up some.

Or - take it to a place that will test it for free - AutoZone, OReilly's, etc.

Removed both cables from the battery and it appears to charging fine.

I remember those days! Having just had knee surgery that wouldn't help me for a few weeks at best!

You're welcome. Keep in mind you might still have a bad battery if it doesn't take a charge, or does the same thing after you reconnect it, or dies shortly thereafter. At that point I'd take it to be tested with a load on it.

After that I'd check the alternator next. In fact, if you get it restarted, check the voltage at the battery with it running and see what the voltage is. I don't have the book/info right in front of me as far as what the voltage should be. Maybe someone else could chime in.

I've seen batteries take out alternators and alternators take out batteries. It may be a good idea to have them both checked anyway.

After that, it gets a little more serious with the starter. But, I wouldn't worry about that just yet.
