Went wheeling yesterday and came back with a strange clunk.

I went for a brief drive after work yesterday, and as I was heading home I started noticing a clunking sound. It only occurs when going over big bumps or something like turning into an inclined driveway. When I was driving through the parking lot at Home Depot on my lunch break, I noticed the big speed bumps were helpful in reproducing and diagnosing the sound. So I did a little mall crawling to see if I could figure out what's wrong.

It sounded like it was coming from the front, so I thought I'd take a look.

Turns out it was the bracket for the rear sway bar. -1 to my mechanic skills. Neither bolts are sheared, so I must have just not tightened it properly and both bolts rattled out. When compared to the pic below, clearly something happened to the bushing as well.

So now the question is, can anyone direct me to the part number for the bushing and bracket? I'm really hoping it's not something where you have to buy a whole sway bar kit or something. If anyone wants to talk shit about my shoddy home mechanic skills, now is your chance for a free shot.

Even though that definitely could be the clunk, you may want to re-torque the front LCA bolts. Actually, you may want to go over everything. If for some reason you can't source the parts through Toyota, you could try the wrecking yards.

Thanks for sharing it with us.

If anything, at the least it reinforces the need for us to slow down and make sure we double-check ourselves when working on our rigs. While at it remember to always have an exit-strategy if things go wrong while underneath too.
