Were side curtain airbags standard on 4th Gens?

If it has the side airbags then the front seats will have an SRS tag on the upper side bolsters and there will be an RSCA off switch to the left of the steering wheel.

Ok, this may be an obvious question, but what is the best way to CONFIRM that the rig has side curtain airbags? Is there an indicator light on the cluster or dash (other than the SRS). I know some have the insignia on the b-pillar and shoulders of the seats. Just want to be absolutely sure. I know of some dealers that put "TRD Off Road" stickers on Tacomas. Just don't want to avoid something like that.

As a data point I believe the 4WDs have the RSCA switch and not the 2WDs.

The side bag-equipped 4th gens should also have a round plastic button that says "SRS" above the grab handle on the A-pillars, in addition to the tags on the drivers/passengers seats quoted above. VERY IMPORTANT to take this in to consideration if you're thinking of getting seat covers!

Finally, check here Vehicle Specification | Toyota Owners to see if side bags are listed as installed equipment on your actual vehicle by inputting the VIN#.

2WDs have them as well. As previously stated, model year 08 and later have RSCA standard so they all have the button to turn them off.

Look for the little seat tag on 07' and below for side airbags. I called on various 4th gens when dealer pics were poor. Every one of them said "yep, it's got airbags". This always meant front airbags, not side airbags. Be sure to check neighboring big cities to your location. Include Arizona, Texas and Florida in your search. 4wd not important and rarely used. I live near Seattle. 4runner, Jeep Wrangler and Subaru are premium price tag.

Also check early 5th gens in your search. Pricing can be similar. The 2010 and 2011 had manual transfer case which I consider a bonus.

Side curtain airbags became standard starting in 2008, I believe. Since my last car got totaled as a result of a T-bone it was one of the biggest selling points for me. Even with the side airbags deploying in my last car I still got beat up pretty good.
