Westcott Lift with 255/85 Tires

We’re shopping new tires for our ‘24 TRD Pro that has the Westcott lift installed (with OEM Nitto tires).
We’re looking to go bigger on the tires and I’m debating 285/70 or 255/85.

There’s tons of info available on the 285s but less so on the 255s. Is anyone here running 255/85 with a similar suspension lift? How is tire clearance? Any modifications needed?

I’m interested in the 255 because they are sized for the TRD Pro wheels (7”). I know a lot of people will say 285s can fit 7” wheels, but I’m more risk adverse and would prefer to stay within spec.
I’ve also heard the 255s will handle better on road, and specifically on our wet PNW roads.

Reading things online it sounds like the 285s typically fit the Westcott lift without much, if any , trimming needed.
The 255s are quite a bit skinnier but they are also taller. I’m not sure if that increased height is going to cause more rubbing and require more extensive modification.

I believe 255/80 is what you're looking for; same/similar diameter to the 285/70. The 255/85 is considerably taller, not sure what you might run into clearance wise, or what your appetite is for cutting/hammering to create clearance if you do have an issue.

Is it safe to assume 255/80 will fit without much modification?

It should be fine, yes. Easier to fit than a 285/70 and those aren't a hassle either.

I've been debating between those two sizes as I need a new set on my 2020 Pro. The tires I want to run don't come in 255/80 so that clouds the waters.

Also, keep in mind, that if you're ever in BFE and need a replacement tire, 285/70 is way more common than 255/80 so in a pinch you may need to buy a tire you can't use long term.
