WFO9 Supercharger Install and results thread

I've heard the overseas LC models with the same motor actually run quite nice and have the ability to drop out of ECO mode. We have the eco light and eco calibration.. they have the same thing, but supposedly turning off the eco mode completely changes the calibration. Just what I have heard.. Can't verify.

They do have a power mode in other countries that does that. I've never driven one, but basically it does exactly what you think it should. Re-maps the throttle response and gear selection. Toyota has some marketing videos on it. I never really thought about whether you might just be able to buy a switch and make it work or if you'd need a full ECU swap. But it's probably possible to do somehow.

I put myself on the list with Magnuson to be contacted when the units are CA compliant...

On one level, I hope they never make them CARB certified (to save me $7k LOL).

I still wonder about the gas mileage. Has the OP had any time to track mileage yet?

Magnuson says a loss of 1-2mpg in the city but no change on the hwy (so as long as you're not lead footed).

I don't see how I'd keep my foot out of it and would hate to see 12mpg average on a Toyota.

Nice man, I saw someone asked about does it work with a snorkel, you have a snorkel ! I guess that's that then.

Finally great news from Magnuson today, "...we did receive our Carb # and all CA orders will be processed in May. We will send you quote order for payment then."

Kit received yesterday. Won't be installed until next week. First high level impression of instructions, packaging, check lists, stickers (fuel warning, new belt routing, etc.) and parts themselves is that the kit is overflowing with quality.

That's true for the LC200 we have out here. Eco mode is off by default, and switched on with a button.

I don't see the point in people asking about MPG lol Since the 4runner gets such horrible MPG in the first place, Im amazed in 2018 the EPA lets them sell it.

Heck a diesel motor option would get so much better mileage and better torque. My 2015 Dodge Ram with a Cummins weighing 10,000lbs gets 25 MPG on highway and 18 to 19 in city

If toyota ever gives us the diesel option here in the US I will be the first at the dealership to trade mine in. Plus you can make nearly unlimited power with a diesel

The Toyota international D4D is a dog that wouldn't sell in the US market if it were offered and Toyota has made no bones about the fact that it will never offer it in the US.

A turbo gasoline engine is a much better choice and offers the same "unlimited power" through tuning as a turbo diesel, but this is stodgy Toyota, so they will lag the rest of the industry in main stream turbo charging for at least 5, maybe 10 years

Maybe your right on the 4runner but yea my 2015 Dodge 2500 with a Cummins on 37's gets 25mpg all day long on the highway. if I'm driving behind an 18 wheeler it is 30mpg. The v6 diesel option in the 1/2 ton Dodge gets a solid 30mpg highway.

I don't see why the 4runner gets as bad of mileage as it does, not sure if its the gearing or the torque thats the issue. But people cant complain about MPG adding a super charger when its already so horrible anyway. Enjoy the extra power lol

lets see......its shaped like a brick, is severely under powered, and needs a different trans. my sister has an 09 tahoe with the 6.2 that gets better mpg's and obviously has no issues with power.
the 4runner needs a v8. unfortunately those days are over.

Update.. I got an updated calibration email from mag the other day. I have not installed it yet.

Sort of hesitant as I'm pretty sure it will reduce the power a bit and I won't be able to go back to what I have (which I'm pretty darn happy with). I'm guessing someone popped a piston with low grade fuel/heat soak and they wanted to add more of a safety margin for the warranty.

I'll probably install it here in the next week. I've had 0 issues, but I run good fuel and don't beat the piss out of it and keep an eye on everything...

I’m guessing your Ram is tuned and deleted, which would make sense for the high mpg. A couple of my coworkers have tuned Rams and get ridiculous good mpg but were only able to get 16-18 stock. The only bad thing about tuning and deleting is the warranty is gone.

Yea I waited till my warranty was almost up at 70k miles before I deleted it and tuned it. then it was 1100 ft pounds of torque and great mileage

New SC install - Not 15 miles from dealer and check Engine lite popped

Had to limp it off the highway. Waiting on tow truck. I was going 70mph on highway when this happened. Bummed . 10 minutes of joy ended. Hope this is a sime dealer fix tomorrow. Stay tuned. Any guesses gents? Anybody with a Magnuson Supercharger have this experience?

Has anyone with a blower setup datalogging yet? I mentioned this earlier but the magnason kit for the LS3 is a great kit but the tune is horrible, to the point of damage to the engine. The data log to a tuner would tell you if your car is running correctly.

Just a little background on the LS3 kit, I went to a holden meet with a family member, my brother has the blower along with a handful of other guys and I was listening to the owners talk about the different kits available to the public, pros/cons, etc. Turns out the maggy kit is the best one to have except you dont want to use the tune. They gains are held back for EPA reasons and it runs so lean you can put a hole in a piston if you didn't have it tunes properly. One owner gained 50hp, and datalogged it with a iphone app and found the problem. Had it tuned and gained 150hp. These LS3 put out 425ish stock and they are able to get close to 700hp with the injectors, E85 kit, and a few other bolt ons. Anyhow; each kit is different but I think it would be worth it to verify how th e4 runners are running with a maggy tune.

My only gripe with my 4 runner is the lack of power, I live at 7000 feet and its a 1500 foot climb and descent into the major city.

I'd expect to have lots of recent feedback. I'm not sure if lack of feedback is a good thing or a bad thing.
