What aftermarket battery are you guys using?

The Toyota parts counter told me all domestic Toyota Batteries, aka any Toyota True Start replacement battery bought from a dealer are manufactured by Interstate Batteries. Of course, the batteries that come installed in vehicles made in Japan are built by Panasonic.

I have 5 years on my Toyota True start 84 months battery.

Interstate does not manufacture batteries. They are made by Johnson Controls who makes most of the name brands out there.

East-Penn & Exide are the other two main manufacturers.

J-C batteries are hit & miss because it's hard to find which batteries are made in what plant. I would avoid Optima as they are overpriced & made in Mexico now & have sucked for the last 8 years or so. I only hear good things about the Interstates & The Everstart Maxx's sold at Walmart & have a great 5 year warranty. $90 probably the same battery as the Costco.

Everything made by East-Penn has a great reputation as does Exide.

I'll be picking one up soon as my battery is cranking slower these past few weeks.

NAPA Legend for me...Have them on both 4Runners and a golf cart. Never given me any problems.

Napa Legend & Premium are made by East-Penn so they're golden in my book, the only problem is the short warranty's. 18 & 24 months.

I really wanted a Die Hard Platinum (made By Odyssey). The thing smokes Optima's for breakfast. Too bad they've been discontinued.

No more Optimas for me. I'm on the second a blue marine one in a 2000 Tundra, should've learned my lesson after the replacing the first one, next battery will be something I can easily purchase and replace locally like Pep Boys or Costco and have a battery tender wired to it since this truck is rarely driven.

In the 4Runner I'm running an Exide from Home Depot, forgot the exact specs but it was higher in all categories versus the local store brands (Pep Boys,Autozone,Advanced Auto) and a longer warranty.

I'm running a basic Exide from March of 2014. It's been ok but my stereo drains it quick with the engine off. Otherwise it starts on every freezing morning. This high end Exide will be my next one, sold at Tractor Supply 120min RC.

The AGM is actually rated at 110min RC(don't know why but that's what my computer at work tells me)so the FX is definitely the better buy.

I will be occasionally running a winch, and an air compressor a bit more often, but otherwise not seeing any more use beyond having the dome light on for a few mins at a time while camping or whatever.

Would you guys recommend a single larger battery, or two "regular" batteries in parallel.

In 2013 I got my 4Runner. I thought "I'll just swap in the 1 year old Die Hard Platinum from my old '91 Toyota truck and I'll be huge." Uh oh...reversed terminals....wah wahhhh.
Looked into extending the batt cables...didn't see any solutions that
looked doable(low auto tech level here) or safe or that would take less than many hours to accomplish.
Decided to spend the extra $80 and get an Odyssey PC 1500 34R that has the correct terminal layout.
It is now almost 4 years later and no problems.

By the way, I suspect that some of the people here and elsewhere on the forums that complain about their battery that "lasted one year" arent telling us about the [one or more]times they drained it flat by leaving the dome light on for five days.

That's the one I bought @ Home Depot, the Exide Extreme 24FX. I see you're in Monroe, you're not too far from Mahwah NJ, the Home Depot there off 17 North has the Extreme for $99.99. I don't know if "Global Extreme" is an exclusive Tractor Supply label,but both that and the ones in Home Depot have the model # 24FX and the same CCA,CA,reserve capacity, and warranty length.

I've got a walmart Ever Start dated 5/15 installed by previous owner. I like the Costco Interstate batteries and will be replacing with that once my ever start fails.

I guess it depends on how much wheelin' you do. If you're off camber a lot or have a second battery in the cargo area I'd go AGM.

I've let my Exide drain more than a few times over the last 3 years & it's still going. That's why I'm sticking with this brand, just moving up to a better model. Always use a 2A trickle charger to bring it back to life. I really need to invest in a tender so I dont shorten the life of my new battery.

Optima has gone down the tube lately. I've owned red and yellow tops. My experience was mediocre with a terrible warranty.

Now I am running a heavy duty 780 CCA interstate bought from Costco for $90 and it came with a 5 year warranty.

And here is the kicker ..... Costco does not check the battery before returning it. You want to return it after 2 years because it isn't quite up to snuff anymore then just bring the battery into the store and they will give you a 100% cash refund even after 18 months.

I'm running the exact same battery from Costco. Unbeatable no questions asked Costco warranty and at an excellent price too.

Optima red tops are junk now. I had one that didn't even two years and I had nothing but problems with it. I heard the Die Hard Platinum batteries are legit too.

Thanks for the heads up. You saved me $20! :dancin: I pass it everyday going to work but I'm closer to the Harriman HD. It is the same battery. The HD version is called "Nascar Extreme" as opposed to "Global".

I use this one in my boat and I'm gonna put them in my 01 and 99 4runners. Keeps my boat batteries at full charge.

2017 SR5 Replacement? (Single Battery)

I have an ARB fridge and want to replace the stock battery with a new one that will run my fridge with no problems. I have read threads about other year models, however, they mention modifications to the tray etc. What do you recommend I get with no modifications and/or perhaps a new ground cable?

I don't know if any battery will run it with no problems, since it's a constant drain on the battery.

Your best bet if trying to do only one battery will be a deep cycle battery like the Optima Yellow top AGM battery. I currently have a Optima Red top and it has a higher crank amp but still more power and capacity than a lead battery, but holds a longer charge so I can play music with the car off. The downside is that a few deep discharges and I might start to lose capacity. Not so with a deep cycle battery, which is why the yellow top might be what you are looking for.

I would replace the battery terminals before worrying about the grounds. The stock battery terminals are prone to rust and corrosion to the point that they weaken and don't hold a current well.
