What All terrains are you running

Hey guys I am trying to figure out what All terrains to get. I know, I know this has probably been asked a million times. However, Have you done it with pics and mileage, noise rating etc?

So, I have primarily run MTR's in the past. Scale should be 1 bad to 5 being the best rating


a) Mileage wear (how long do they last? 1 not long 5 long, try and include miles)
b) Noise (1 noisy 5 quiet )
c) cupping (With rotation how much did they cup? 1 bad much 5 good)
d)function on wet roads (1 bad 5 good)
e) function off road (1 bad 5 good)

For instance I had Cooper stt (not all terrain)

a) 4 at 20,000 still had great tread dept
b) 4 were really starting to get extremely noisy. When I got them they were very quiet, I did quite a few rotations
c) 2 were cupping poorly and were rotated quite a bit
d) 4 did great on the road in wet and dry conditions
e) 5 Great offroad in mud and sand, never made it to rocks



Two tires I am hoping for are Cooper Maxx, toyo oc at3,

from what i gather the best AT on the market right now is the Cooper STT Maxx. its a beast.

i run General Grabber Red Labels which are an AT/MT mix tire. they're quiet well mannered and wear like iron. they have an unconventional tread pattern so their cupping is minimal and their rain characteristics are good as well. the only downside is they're heavy, which is also something to consider with ALL the tires that Toyo or Nitto make, they're super high quality but they're heavy and that will effect your fuel milage.

if it were me id be looking at the Cooper STT Maxx's, the Toyo AT2 Xtreme's and the Goodyear duratracs

I hear ya Antman. Just trying to get a overall idea of the other options. Ever since they came out I have heard how soft they were.

265/70-17 General Grabber AT2.

a) 5, at 35,000 and still have great tread depth, claimed to go 60,000.
b) 2, when I got them they were very quiet. At around 25K they began to exhibit a slight hum at highway speeds
c) 2, minor cupping on outer lugs is probably the cause of the hum.
d) 4, great on the road in wet and dry conditions but not snow rated.
e) 4, Very good off road in sand and rocks, not so good in mud. But they are AT's not MT's. NO chunking at all from what rock crawling I have done.

Overall I am very happy with how they have performed and wouldn't hesitate to use them again. I have considered getting a set of dedicated MT's mounted on my factory rims for known off roading weekends. When I bought these I knew that 99% of the miles put on them would be highway miles commuting to and from oil rigs, so the less aggressive tread got the nod. I love the fact that their tread pattern is very similar to the BFG KO, while they are priced at roughly half their cost.

I am running Duratracs. Likely, to buy another set this week for the wife's 5th Gen too.

Just put BFG all terrain KO2 tires on and be done with it. Not that it matters but I just read in a magazine that these tires sell more than all the other AT tires combined.

My friends BFG lasted forever. But were noisy as hail!

I run BFG KO's on my 5th gen and here is how I rate them.

a) Mileage wear (how long do they last? 1 not long 5 long, try and include miles)- Currently they have around 27k on them with very little, nice and even wear.
b) Noise (1 noisy 5 quiet )- I would rate the KO's about a 3-4 rating. I can hear them with the radio off but nothing offensive.
c) cupping (With rotation how much did they cup? 1 bad much 5 good)- No cupping yet. My alignment is good and I rotate every 10k.
d)function on wet roads (1 bad 5 good)- I would rate the wet road traction about a 4. Not perfect but pretty damn good.
e) function off road (1 bad 5 good)- I would also rate the off road function a solid 4. They do everything great off road except really deep, sticky mud but then again they're an AT.

I run the BFG KO2's on my 4th gen and here is how I would rate them:

a) Mileage wear (how long do they last? 1 not long 5 long, try and include miles)- I have almost 12k on them with no visible wear. I expect them to last a long time just like the KO's have done for me in the past.
b) Noise (1 noisy 5 quiet )- A solid 5. They are very quiet, almost too quiet. Also, a very smooth rolling tire.
c) cupping (With rotation how much did they cup? 1 bad much 5 good)- No cupping yet with 5k rotations.
d)function on wet roads (1 bad 5 good)- I would give them a 5 for wet roads. Traction is great on wet roads. A noticeable difference from the KO's. I have yet to get these on snow or ice.
e) function off road (1 bad 5 good)- I would rate these a 5. I find they work great off road. I've had them in mud in the Zuni mountains, bunch of trails around Ouray, and in Moab and the traction has been great with no chunking. My only regret is that I didn't go to a bigger size.

I have also ran the Toyo AT2 Extreme on a F150.

a) Mileage wear (how long do they last? 1 not long 5 long, try and include miles)- I had only put 15k on them when I traded the truck but they had very little wear.
b) Noise (1 noisy 5 quiet )-I would rate these a 2. Noisier than I expected them to be. Almost MT loud over 60 mph.
c) cupping (With rotation how much did they cup? 1 bad much 5 good)-No cupping with 5k rotations.
d)function on wet roads (1 bad 5 good)- 5. The Toyo's handled wet, icy, snowy roads with ease.
e) function off road (1 bad 5 good)-4. Off road function was pretty good. The only thing they didn't do really good at was deep mud.

The other thing about the Toyo's was they were heavy. Nice thick sidewalls though and they towed like a boss.

Nothing but good things to say about BFG ko2

Had BFG KOs and liked them a lot. They wear well and are very quiet. They do well off road in everything but mud as everyone says, and have tough sidewalls. My biggest complaint was the chunking. After one Moab trip they had lugs missing and after each succesive trip more were torn off. It wasn't a huge amount, but more than I would like to see.

I also felt like they hydroplaned easily. I think the tight tread blocks trap water between them. I have MTRs now and they feel more stable running through ponding water as I think their larger voids allow water an escape route.

I remember when I first started coming here, it was either BFG ats vs Bridgestone Dueller ATs. That was about all anyone ran as far as ATs. Now you never hear much about Duellers. I have Duratracs and I have no complaints.
