What am I missing?

I recently acquired a 98 limited and opened the hood to check some things and noticed it looked like I had some disconnected or missing vacuum lines. The are two small ports on the throttle body, one open line to the left of throttle body along the fire wall and one disconnected along the firewall closer to the master cylinder. Please help!

Just ran out and looked at mine. The two ports on top of the throttle body are capped on mine. The hard line in the left side of your picture goes to a t-fitting in one of the heater hoses. I didn't notice the other one by the master cylinder. Sorry for the vagueness.

I know that there's one or two lines that are capped, something about an environmental thing that robbed performance in the early days of the 5vz that they stopped doing. If i remember right, some of the late 2nd gens with the 3.4 had it, but when they brought out the 3rd gen, they killed that particular doohikey.

Anyway i read that somewhere and since the internet is always right, that's what I'm going with. :p

Those are your auxillery heater lines. It must have kleaked on your 4runner and instead of fixing it, they unhooked it and bypassed it.

Nothing to do with emmissions.

x2. Those are where your rear heater lines should be. If you look under the passenger side you'll see a couple metal tubes running along frame the rail. Chances are yours rusted through, and rather than replacing them the PO just got rid of the rear heat.

Right story, wrong lines. The ones you are referring to are the EGR ports on the throttle body which were never used on OBDII 5VZ-FEs. Pre-1996 T100's with the V6 used the EGR's.

The ones in the pic feed the rear heater, as others have said.

I have done the same to mine with the lines because the rear heater lines are rotted and honestly, the 4runner interior isn't big so the vents from front heat up the rear/whole car pretty quickly. It's basicslly by passed ... Nothing to worry.
