What Batteries are you using?

I know there is several threads on this, but none of them are recent.
I've been thinking about doing a dual battery setup, and I'm unsure what batteries to go with.
With redtops being manufactured in mexico and diehard platinums discontinued, I'm at a loss.
Odyssey is a good option I know, but they are a bit pricey.

I don't have dual batteries but I have a duralast platinum that's pretty decent

If you want to spend a bit, you could look into Stinger, XS Power or Northstar.

For the lower end of the scale, Interstate is the king, the DCM series are great if you want deep cycles.

Just recently plunked down for an Odyssey 34R-PC1500.

Pricey as you say, but I was shopping for utter reliability (reputation and warranty), and AFAIK Sears doesn't do the DieHard Platinums anymore, which was my first pick.

Odyssey PC 1500 group 34R...'R' for reversed terminals. It was worth paying an extra $80 for the battery to avoid the hassle of fabbing reversed cables. The second batt is a slightly older Die Hard Platinum.

X2 Power (Northstar) SLI24F AGM DP 585 Cold crank amps dual purpose. It's a heck of a juice box. Highly recommend Northstar.

Special stereo needs aside, a battery is a battery.
As long as there is 12 volts and lots of CCA (cold cranking amps 8-900) your good to go.
I found that national brands = national retailers like Wal-Marts , Costco etc. translates to an available replacement no matter where you are. And they seem to have the most liberal replacement warranties as well.

I found this out the hard way when I had a special battery in the car .
Battery died after 7 years and of course it was after hours on the weekend.
Couldn't get a replacement until the following Monday. Now the car has a regular battery.

I'm running the same battery from Costco. No issues at all bit I've also only had it for a few months, you can't beat the price/warranty.

Dual Odessey Extremes.

(EDITED TO PROVIDE MORE DETAIL) The batteries are Odyssey Deep Cycle Battery Group 34... ODY34/78-PC1500DT. They are connected a Blue Sea Automatic Charging Relay, which isolates the batteries when they are drained to a certain level, making sure that you always have enough juice to start the rig with the starting battery if you are using the batteries for a refrigerator, lighting or other needs. The system is monitored with a Victory Dual Battery Monitor, which gives me all the information I need about the status of both batteries. The batteries sit on a custom fabricated dual battery tray made by Mule Expedition Outfitters. The radiator overflow bottle needed to be moved to the other side of the bay in order to fit these in.

I run the Costco/Kirkland battery in whatever the stock size is. It works well, but my winch kicks it's ass even when I am holding the throttle at 2k RPM or so while pulling.

I've have it for 4 years now, I believe. It died on me once after running the stereo for about 30 minutes and I planned to replace it, but with a few days on the Noco charger it seems to be good as new.

I have a conventional 27F battery right now, but about to switch to a group 31 deep cycle or AGM so I can run my fridge longer and not worry about it.

I will have to find some post adaptors and maybe extend the positive and negative sides to work since a group 31 with F or reversed terminals isn't available.

He doesn't have a third gen.

I have almost the same battery and the same mileage, and I'd never say that but I have a '99 with the V6.

My Costco Group 35 is five years old (3/07/11) and started up just fine at 20° on this past Jan 28th after sitting untouched from Dec 12. Pretty impressive.

Unfortunately Costco no longer sells the Kirkland batteries and no longer has that awesome warranty. (I think they just resell Interstates now, which are darn good batteries.

I have been using Costco and WalMart (for sizes Costco does not carry) in all the vehicles I maintain for several years now, ever since my Mexican RedTop crapped after three years. If one of the Costco/WalMart batteries craps out, just exchange at any store in the country. One WalMart has six years and the 4Runner is the oldest Costco. All are still going strong (five cars and one tractor.)

How's that fit with the stock battery mount?

Fits perfectly in the plate, but I had to make my own bracket (which is the one pictured). The top of the battery is almost perfectly level with the front mounting point, so it's basically just a flat bar, really easy to make and really solid.
