What CV to buy

One has a torn boot so I figure I will just replace both cv’s. What brand should I go with? Will be off reading / camping with this rig so better quality is preferred.

Stock is the strongest unless you spend some serious cash on aftermarket ones. Just replace the boot and repack the grease.

I replaced both mine after my lift with CVJ, they are well priced and you can get better boot options if you need more rugged. I go with the standard and haven’t had an issue. My driver side outer (nearest the tire) tore but I’m thinking it must be from road debris. Usually the ones to tear on our rigs are the inners from the angles after a lift. If you have a lift, definitely not aftermarket jobbers as they will give you vibrations especially in a V8. OEM is always the best, even a used one.

I also replaced mine with CVJ - great service, quality OEM remans, with boot upgrade options. Have had mine on for 36k miles with no complaints.

I also replaced both of mine with CVJ. I did the oem Toyota boot upgrade on them as well.

Not sure if that was needed, but I really only wanted to do the swap once.

CVJ is awesome.

I bought leaking OEM ones with 115k miles from a member on here and rebuilt them. I have just over $200 into it including all the tools I needed. Prepare to get a little greasy though.

Ebay has them for like $70 each too, you could rebuilt those.

i agree with the first part (OEM is life), but if you don't know how long the boots have been torn, don't just reboot and regrease them. depending on how much grease has spewed out you don't know how worn out the interior parts are and how much dirt is in there. you'd be better off sourcing some OEM remans off ebay unless you know for a fact that they've only recently torn.

if you ever plan on wheeling your truck, please don't buy anything from autozone or o'reilly or napa or "premium OEM replacements" from your mechanic. it's all garbage. source: myself. i've had two "premium OEM replacements" blow up on me while wheeling.
