what did you do to get better gas mileage?

I use a spreed sheet I made in excel that tracks mpg/cost per mile to drive/ corrects mile for over sized tires, and tells me the differance from the lie-o-matic and actual mileage. If anyone wants my spreed sheet let me know.
Using this spreed sheet really helps keep track of my mileage and the effects of each mode and other things.

Well, if you actually went 460 miles and actually burned 23 gallons of fuel, you actually got 20 mpg.......until you ran out of gas.

Under the assumption the tank HAD 23 gallons in it to begin with AND you drove 460 miles and then ran out of gas, that would be correct.

okay so after driving my car around and filling up the tank roughly 4-5 times already.
im constantly getting close to 16 mpg.
i would fill up the tank, drive for couple days and fill up completely and divide the how many miles i drive that one trip on that tank by the amount of gallons i filled up all the way. it constantly came out to be little less than 16 miles per gallon and one time a little more than 16 miles per gallon.

car is completely stock.
i know the miles on the tank gauge is not accurate but when im done filling up it right away reads a little more than 360miles.

i met another friend of mine that turns out to also have a 2004 4runner and he says that hes getting 21 miles per gallon. he got his car new.

shouldnt the thing that states how many miles im getting say maybe 460 right after fill up?

im wondering if the previous owner of my car maybe reflashed the ecu maybe? i can see any way the car can eat an extra 5 miles per gallon constantly. btw i already cleaned the MAF sensor. still the same. car is completely stock.

any ideas why my car would be eating an extra 5 mpg? what else should i do? or what could be the reason? ecu reflashed? i bought this car used from a dealership, no cels

Is It Cold Out?

Not sure where you are located - but around here it's cold, so many people have remote starters or just start their vehicles and let them idle a while with the heat on before actually driving off. That practice has a big impact on my '06 V6 mpg - dropping it from ~17-18 mpg during the warm weather to ~ 15-16 mpg during the winter. Driving is a mix of city/highway miles. Truck is stock, running new Yoko HT/S', synthetic motor oil, ~ 68,000 miles on it.
