What did you do to/in your 5th Gen today?!

Installed 700lb King Springs to my 6112s and JBA upper control arms! I'll get it aligned soon but the handling is already notably better for a short drive to get gas and Jack in the Box.

Did this because the weight of the front bumper was killing my handling and I didn't like how low it was sitting up front. Dropped me down anywhere from .5 to 1 inch. And possibly stock UCAs were to blame too for handling. This brought me back up about 2 - 2.5 inches (Clips are on #7 and #4 which came out dead even to both sides). Fender to ground is about 38.5 inches now.

The morning was devoted exclusively to the 4Runner. We had set up an appointment at Equipt Expedition Outfitters in Salt Lake City for the installation of an Eezi-Awn K9 2.2m roof rack.

Then we went to Mark Miller Toyota in Slat Lake City near the city center to make an oil change and a tire swap. What a great experience; they offer oil change and tire rotation without appointments. The work was done in a really short time and very well done.

Picked up my 2017 MGM ORP today and UPS left me a few presents. Getting tires and wheels mounted tomorrow. Got a bunch of other goodies coming this weekend and early next week.

I had the same problem...solved by putting on hub rings to accommodate the couple mm difference between the Toyota hubs and most aftermarket wheel manufacturers...

Winterized

Slapped some heating pads on the tranny and oil pans, and installed a battery blanket and block heater. Routed all the wires to the front, then drilled a hole right in the front of my BRAND NEW 4-Runner. :faint2:

Damn that was nerve-racking, but the final product is totally worth it. So much better than having that damn bright-colored cord hanging out the front like every other vehicle here in Alaska. :smow:

Oh, and gave the first oil change @ 550 miles (day prior). Sludgy mess in there. Glad I did it.

Winch remote cable extension

Took my Smittybilt winch remote cable and pretty much cut into 2 pieces and installed waterproof aircraft connections. Now I have quick and easy access when I need to plug in the wired remote!

Did you get the unfinished one through that Rago sale recently? I almost pulled the trigger but figured the extra $100 or so for both sides made sense to just buy them finished/ready to install.

No, I got my rack through Trail Duty and bars through 4 Wheel Parts. Both are painted with a "rust inhibitor", but I have little confidence they'll hold up to salt and road treatments over the winters.

Here are some pictures from my light bar mount install last night. I'm pretty happy with how it turned out. I'll see how it holds up on trails. Also, I don't recall seeing anyone who drives with their grill removed. I took mine off just to see how it would look and I actually like it. The light bar would be more effective since it wouldn't be blocked by the grill. Am I just a weirdo? The only negative thing I can think of is that debris or rain/mud would get in easier since there's no longer anything to deflect off of. Anyone have thoughts on this?

This is the bracket I used: https://www.lowes.com/pd/USP-2-in-x-9-75-in-Steel-Concrete-Angle/3692044. Overall I spent about $20 since I had to buy some washers and bolts.

Before with my janky zip ties holding the light bar on.

Had to drill holes since I only have a 22" light bar.

Bumper put back on to see how it would look without the grill. I ended up putting the grill back on but if I decided to take it off again, I'd rattle can the brackets so they're less noticable.

Here it is with the grill back on.

Close up of the finished product. Once I've gone on some trails, I'm going to remove my bumper again and check the bolts. I'll also rattle can the brackets black.

I've had them on fir almost 2 years without any problems. They're eady to cut and to drill.

Thanks again. I owe ya a beer. I'm happy with them. It's just nice how versatile they can be. I might drill additional mounting holes in the brackets and install another light bar or pods.

Aircraft connectors

These are what I picked up: uxcell Pair Waterproof Aviation Cable Connector + Socket SD16-5 5 Pin IP68 New | eBay

I checked with Smittybilt and was told 5amps goes through their remote cable. So any type of waterproof connector that can handle 5amps and 3 conductors will work.

Interesting! Where do you get these connectors?

Love it! Got it 90% wired but just need to figure out where I want it to come out from.
I have the Cobra 75wxst so I want to be able to plug it in and remove it when not needed. I have a couple ideas but we will see

Found a bonus option to having 4 separate whites on the front rather than a beam light bar.



I had some rope rescue training run late with willing trainees so I broke out the 14MM socket and pivoted all the lights to keep the sun up from top to bottom of the tower.
