Well, I finally got a chance to take a brief trip out to the desert Sunday night! First chance I've had to do anything since my Nevada trip in July. This was just a "out and back" trip, staying overnight and returning Monday afternoon. Didn't do any major off-roading, just some mild trails, but it sure felt good to get off the pavement and immerse myself in the desert.

I got out there late, sometime after midnight. Tried some night sky photos but wasn't pleased with the results. I picked out a couple of the better ones here...

I haven't used it enough to say that I love it, but it was definitely what I was looking for. I go to the range here and there and sometimes I like to run errands on the way there or back, so I wanted something that I could lock my firearms inside of and this fits the bill perfectly.

Build quality is top notch, but I'm not a huge fan of their tie-down method. They use turnbuckles to hold the cargo-loading end of it down (and ratchet straps to the rear seats on the back). On the right side it doesn't tighten enough and on the left side it interferes with one of the plastic trim pieces in my 4R.

Even when I can get them tied down pretty well, I can lift the drawers about 1/2", which means when I go over speed bumps or take it off-road the drawers are going to bounce around.

I paid $2200 for mine--would have been $2450ish but they included freight for free.

Mine is the standard height. They have a magnum height, but it takes up quite a bit of height in the back which is why I opted for the standard height.

Does the Gobi logo come on the wind deflector? I have seen it with and without. I'd prefer not to have it on mine when I order it.

After a few months of deciding which roof rack to buy I’ve decided. Picked up a gently used Gobi and installed it along with the ladder. This was the one I wanted but didn’t want to wait.

2200 is a bit over what I'm trying to spend but it technically is a gun safe so i understand the costs behind it.
i really like the way it looks in there. most of the back is still completely usable for every day functionality

Nope, bought a gently used rack, fairing, two removable load bars, the gobi axe and shovel locking mount, ladder, and rear hatch struts for less than a new rack with no wait time. I don't blame people for paying more and not waiting. I was willing to pay more, just didn't have to.

That being said, I can sell this setup for $2k :reddance: haha

Cruised around Boone NC, trolled the dealership there while dropping off a tire from my brother's Sienna. Got lots of looks and more than a few walkarounds while my truck was in the parking lot.
Appalachia is 4Runner country, lots of them up here. Only saw one that was modified, a lifted black 3rd gen with oversized tires and roof rack.

I have a 2015 4R Magnetic gray its 2WD. I want to do some mods to it, is lifting generally advisable even for a 2WD? I want the aggressive stance but not over the top, I also want a better ride and not like floating on the cloud. I also have this mindset that 2WD are not suited for off roading is there truth to it? I'm not sure if this has been answered before Thanks! I got a 4R coming from A3 hatch, my dad has a 2006 4R with 384K miles on it and no major or mechanical service has been done to it and still running great I guess you could say it was an easy decision aftet all..

When I had my 2wd LE I was advised against it and I’ve also seen lots of people on the trails recently in 2wd. Guess it depends on what kind of trails you plan on doing. IMHO the majority of trails don’t require 4WD let alone a lift or upgraded suspension. For most, it’s more of a looks/ride thing. That being said I’ve already done a lot to my vehicle and intend to do more even though it’s a DD but takes me on all my racing/camping adventures.

Put spacers on this afternoon. Spidertrax spacers.
I know some people hate spacers... is what it is. These appear to be well made. Look and feel as well as custom spacers that I have had made for Audi and VW vehicles. Anyhow. This at least makes the 4Runner look a little better until I can get it lifted and ko2’s after the holidays

What did I do today?

Well, I enjoyed the nice Metro Phoenix weather today. I installed my new Odyssey 34R PC1500 battery. Didn't need a new one yet, but I will be installing a winch soon. Also installed a set of spidertrax that I purchased from a forum member 2 years ago. See pics above, mine look the same. I am getting a number of parts line-xd; more improvements coming soon.

Put the Toytec 2" Lift on my TRDP. I have to wait until it is light out to see how it looks with the stock tires or if I need to go bigger

Installed some Go Rhino running boards. Heavy duty and sit at a great height. They look good but it's taking me a moment to adjust to the new look. I really like the clean look. At least the kiddo can climb herself in now [emoji1]

Took off F/R bumpers to wrap these valences. Couple things here
1. Wrapping is not easy
2. It would take some small hands to remove those clips with the bumper on. Much easier to just remove the bumpers.
3. Now that I’ve wrapped front and rear, I’m not sure I like it and probably go back to silver.
