Front suspension is OEM 2018 TRD PRO with a Toytec lower 1" spacer.

First post!!! I bought my '19 SR5 a few weeks ago and did my first mod today at 528 miles.

This was 100% a safety/mobility modification - I've done it on 4 other vehicles over the years, but this was my first Toyota. I have a disability in my arms that limits my reach. My hands are also smaller than average, and the stock wheel is large and cumbersome. I used the same setup in my Forester XT for 100k mi with zero issues. Being my first Toyota, I was slightly apprehensive about this mod. I haven't come across another 5th gen with an aftermarket steering wheel. I did a TON of research into fitment and any potential electrical issues, and, alas, there were no conflicts or ill-fitting parts. With some steering adapter hubs, there aren't provisions for the clockspring, which requires the driver to manually turn off the blinkers. This hub works with the clockspring, so the blinkers operate normally, and there are zero warning lights.

I can do a detailed write-up, if it's useful to anyone, but I doubt this will be a popular mod among the 4Runner crowd, mostly because of the airbag issue.

For now, these are the parts I used:

* Works Bell Adapter Hub: Model 540S. Comes with several harnesses with spade connectors, two resistors and fasteners. The adapter hub, resisters and horn wiring harness were 100% plug-and-play. I lost cruise control and the other buttons, but I'll figure that stuff out later. There are various kits to mount the cruise control stalk, mostly from the GT86/FRS/BRZ world.

* NRG Quick Release

* Works Bell 1" Spacer

* Nardi Deep Corn Steering Wheel

This is the most GANGSTER mod I’ve seen in a 4runner from reading I see it’s a need for you but being a LONG time import enthusiast I LOVE IT. Might be doing that in the future for security if you haven’t already get the NRG wheel hub lock, I still have mine for back in the day (2006) bought it when NRG first made them for $60 now they retail north of $120 or so

Ha! Welcome to the club! Just be sure to check your 4R before and after each dealer service. If you’re paranoid like me or have experienced lots of dealer mishaps do these before you take it in, depending on your equipment:
Take off any hub caps (so they don’t bash them when re-installing them).
Remove front skid plate (so no stripped bolt threads).
Remove oil drain access cover (so no stripped or lost bolts).
Mark your oil filter body to engine interface with a tiny drop of glue to see if it was broken off when/if changing the filter.
Mark a code on each tire with a sharpie to indicate its position to be sure they were rotated (something like DF, PF, DR, PR).

And after they’re done check all those things and look under the truck, in the cabin, in the trunk, and under the hood for any sloppy cleanup or leftover tools.
I’m sorry to say I’ve experienced all of these things with dealers or mechanics over the years.

Thanks for the tips I'll definitely be doing these when i reach the 10k appointment mark. As you can see from the photo they just happened to have my truck at the lift right in front of the window to the waiting area, so I spent most of my time there just watching them. It was definitely amateur hour. Like 4 guys per vehicle; slamming hubcaps around, messing around on their smartphones, vaping all the while, just generally playing grabass so my appointment ended up taking 1.5 hours just to rotate tires, inspect, and check fluids. We're moving at the end of the year so luckily this will be my last visit. I'll change the oil myself before then thank you hah.

This dealer is also insane about trying to get a 5 star rating on google and other dealer review pages. Their rep told me that if Toyo corporate doesn't see perfect scores with customer feedback then they get individual pay penalties. Besides the fact that perfection is impossible, they could at least try to get there instead of acting like they've never done this before.

Cleaned up underhood. I'm trying to think of a way to dress up the engine cover a bit. Highlight the emblem and the detents along both sides. Not sure exactly what colors or how yet.

Took it in for the 5k Toyoyacare maintenance. This dealer is pretty bad. After the appointment, I get home and open the hatch to retrieve something and see the left panel off and the factory lug wrench bundle open on the slide out tray. Of course, the wheel lug lock key is missing. So, I call the dealer and they're 'sorry' they forgot to put everything back. Got it worked out but still, this is the second time in as many visits I got burned by this place and it's really not hard to just put things back when you're done. I'll be very happy to be going to another dealer for the 10k service and beyond.

Then stop going. I don't take my vehicles to dealers.

This time it was your wheel lug next time it will be your drain plug.

What about mimicking your exterior color? The blue would be a bit muted, but I think it would look nice if done well.

Swapped out my KO2's (275/70r17) for Falken Wildpeak A/T 3W's (255/80r17)


Up to 33" and that's as far as I go!


Didn't have a spanner wrench, so had to leave the Fox's at 2", but will bring up to 2.75" next week.

How's the rolling resistance compared to the KO2's? Are these standard load or C/D/E?

There's a lot to be saved with 35k of service appointments covered by the purchase so that's a reason to still do it. Like the other poster said, just inspect and make sure it's all good to go before you do anything with it. I did all the maintenance on my previous vehicle, but it's nice not to have to now because time is something of a luxury these days. Besides, we'll be moving at the end of the year so I'll be in a new dealers hands anyhow.

Maybe all dealers aren't the same? Wishful thinking perhaps hah

Thank you. It wasn't too dirty so I blew off the dust with a leaf blower, wiped it down with a damp cloth and used Pep Boys plastic and vinyl cleaner/restorer. Cheap stuff but it works pretty well for this. I sprayed it on a cloth so I could control where it went, not on the plastics.

That's what I'm thinking too. I was also thinking of something close to the Voodoo Blue for more contrast.

Got to test my awning i made at the beach. It was REALLY windy and i wasnt able to extend the anchors far out due to a car next to me, but it held up great!

More to be lost than saved. I was given 3 years of Toyota care with my purchase. My 4Runner has never and will never go to the dealer for service. That goes for my 2016 4Runner and my 2019 Highlander. The $50 it costs to change the oil myself is more than worth it to know it's been done correctly. I also change my oil every 5K not 10K for the simple fact that 10K is insane. Again, cheap peace of mind.

put TRD black wheels plus bilstein 5100s on front set@ 1.75 and alignment NO change to the stock rear, they raised the front by 2+ inches so from the concrete to the fender well shows the front measurement within 1/4" less of the rear fender measurement..... to the eye it looks level now but Im still on the fence if I should have gone with the .85 height which probably would have raised it an inch (I wish there had been a groove setting between .85 and 1.75), ride is a nice improvement with less nose diving....still debating which tires Im going with, K02s or wildpeaks or something else
