What did you do to/in your 5th Gen today?!

Filled the tank with gas since supply on the East Coast looks like it’ll be shut off for a bit. #ColonialPipeline #Hack

I don’t know why I thought they meant natural gas in the article. Filled up today but good to know / have clarified.

Went for a little overnight adventure to test out some new gear and woke up with some snow on the ground. 4Runner did great but I came back with a list of things needing improvement before I take it any further into the backcountry.

Finished the extension to turn my drawer system into a sleeping platform! After a few designs and going back and fourth we settled on a rough plan and wanted to get the materials to at least be able to visualize it better. Well that turned into deciding just to build it and we knocked it out in a few hours and total cost was under $100.

Here is what it looks like from the back. As you can tell the colors don't match but hey function over form.

When not in use or when you want to remove it, it actually sits so perfect on top of the dobinson drawer. Folding up the rear seats prevents it from sliding around and everything can be loaded on top of it. No issues while offroading or it shifting! Then the support boards either can go on top and be held down or on the floor.

Going to wrap it up next weekend to color match it a bit better with some fabric dye and add some legs for extra support in the area that touches the front seats.

I did a full explanation of the build process on my build thread with more photos!

Nice! What's on your list?

Not much=got sidetracked! Ended up picking up the veggies for the garden, a few hanging plants for beauty and a carload of elm and maple for bee houses. Sorted out my off-road stuff as to what goes in my FJ40, what goes in the 4Runner, and what is give-aways.

However, saw AT LEAST a half dozen various generations of 4Runners on the 6 mile round trip to Home Depot!

Its a long list. lol. I previously had an F150 so had much more room for excess gear that I "might" need.

Heres the overview;

- Upgrade some equipment such as chairs, table to minimize storage space needed.
- Get 1-2" risers for my tent, which is currently direct mounted to the Prinsu. Barely enough room to open/close it properly because of the lack of clearance.
- Still waiting for my drawer system for the rear cargo area, so gear storage was in bins leftover from my F150 last year. Needless to say, it was an unorganized mess, so I made smokies over the fire and drank cold beer instead of cooking a proper meal. haha. In retrospect, that was one of the best parts of the trip.
- Either fix or completely disconnect my KDSS system as the front sway bar clunks like a mother at slow speeds. I've replaced bushings and inspected for leaks, but maybe previous owner did something to lose pressure.

I've done a lot of work to make it trustworthy in the backcountry, but need a few shake down runs to fine tune everything.

Moved to Colorado! Took the rig out on an easy local trail/road. Many more mods incoming now!

Started by tackling the Meso Customs puddle lights.

Button added in. While I was in there I swapped some of the buttons around. Moved the inverter button up top because it is hard to tell when its actually on from the lower spot.

Then finished it up by installing my Gobi awning brackets and replacing my old mounts! Only have a 6.5' awning, which only needs 2, but since I got a set of 3 might as well use them. Will also be nice since we use the awning room with it, can never have too much support! Solo mounting it was a challenge. Feel like it needs to be adjusted and slid forward but that's for another day when I have a second pair of hands.

I have a clunk I’ve been chasing for 5yrs still there. Just recently got worse. I removed the front sway bar and its still there.

Headed out to Mexican hat then took the incredibly long way up a 11k ft mountain only to find out the trail was blocked by trees so i hat to turn around and think of a new camp spot for the night. I settled for this cool lake i found. Then went exploring a random offroad trail around some arches b4 heading back to base camp. IMG_3083.jpg

Just got back from a trip to the Talladega area.

Went up there last week for the USPSA LoCap National Championships at the CMP Marksmanship Park. Staff got to shoot the 20 stage match on Wed/Thu, then the competitors shot it Fri-Sun. One of the pics is the stage I worked, another is a pic off of the back patio of the clubhouse looking over the 600yrd rifle range.

I stayed up at Cheaha State Park and had a great, winding drive through the Talladega National Forest each day to/from the CMP range. Great camping area to stay in if you're in the area. The have an upper, a lower, and some primitive camping areas.

Added a Gobi ladder this past weekend! Got it for a smoking deal and did not have any lead time at all!

Try this, it worked for me. I had a bad clunk after doing my suspension upgrade.

Put truck on jack stands so all 4 tires are in full droop.
Release the KDSS shutter valves (no more than 2 1/2 turns)
Lower truck to ground
Jack up the front KDSS piston (how high is just depending on your comfort level) Just do it slowly and go as high as you can.
Rock the truck back and forth from side to side vigorously for a full minute
Close the shutter valves
Release the jack from the KDSS piston

Reply back to us and let us know if that worked. I am the only one I know of that has tried that and it did work for me. But only 1 data point is not enough to say this is the fix for the KDSS clunk.
