Finally got the 4Runner out on its maiden desert run. Got some valuable first hand lessons on the handling characteristics of the 1GR-FE out on the dunes too..

Basically sums down to this: On the real steep, soft stuff, 4Hi, all traction aids completely off, you're unstoppable at +4.5k rpm range..

Below 4.5k rpm, things slowly bog down to ~2k rpm unless its not too steep of a climb. There's power in the 1GR, its just that you basically need to be up there to stay up there..

Overall was a blast until we got lost for a bit on the way back and ran into a US military base.. got tense for a bit there, but made it home in one piece!

Brought the family home safe and sound. Here is nearly the same pic back in late 2010 in my old SR5.

Are you sporting 275s on your TEP? Lately, I've noticed that the wheel well gap in some of the 14 models (particularly the LE) appears to be lessened over the 10-13 models. If this is the case, I was wondering what changes (body or suspension) Toyota has made to do this. The main fender panels appear to be the same.

Stock tires on both vehicles.

(sun) worked a little on the "gap fillers" where rear mudflaps used to be (it's a start anyway...)
(mon) got cleaned up

Sorry to jack the thread but can someone tell me how they are going about doing the red d rings under their front bumpers? It looks nice and clean and appears to be where the crappy factory hooks used to be.

Thanks,
Chris

they are actually just attached to the factory hooks are. 3/4" d-rings, they do have room to wiggle, i bungee'd these up from behind the filler plate, but those who let em hang have reported no noisy clanging as far as i have read to date.

I converted the headlights to H9s and I installed an inverter in the back. First picture is the original H11 and second is H9.

Sorry for the large pics.

Looks good. May I ask the reason/purpose you put it there? Did you run power from the center console?
