Did you change the filter too because it holds about a 1/2 quart?
If you did either the dealer(probable) only put in 6 qts or you burned that much(highly doubtful).

I changed my oil and filter 7 times now and drained 6 1/2 quarts and put in 6 1/2 quarts every time. The 8th time is coming up real soon as I have over 7k miles on this oil thru the hot summer and dusty offroads.

I did, I was thinking the dealer probably under filled it. No way I'm burning half a quart of oil and not having any other indication of a problem. If so, I have the 100k warranty

Thanks! He (Shrek) is 4 years old this November. I left him at my folks place whilst I lived out west because of the stupid HOA rules of having a dog over 60 pounds. Anyway its great having him riding shotgun in the runner again!

I pastidip'ed my rims, I really like the look but I mainly did it to protect them against our harsh winters up here.

I also installed a Toyota bug deflector two weeks ago.

Just dumped my old oil and found that while I put in 6.6qt (probably a bit more) I only had 6qt of old oil. I did not check the level prior to changing it, not sure why :shrug: Does anyone else notice that they are not getting the full amount back out?

"The mystery of the disappearing crankcase lubricant!"

This very small amount of oil consumption is "Necessary and Normal"! Let's keep in mind that the primary purpose of our engine's oil is to "insulate" all of the moving parts from friction, caused by "surface to surface" contact.

The majority of the oil's job, takes place in the crankcase; so after the oil is pumped through the "Journals and oil gallery", it simply returns to the oil pan & sump.

But some parts' work is not limited to just the crankcase, but the combustion chamber as well, e.g...pistons, rings, valve stems. So a small amount of oil is "allowed" to burn, and factored into the engine's design.

For Instance: the thin layer of oil assigned to the cylinder walls & pistons, or valve stems & guides. The oil rings and valve stem guide seals, ARE NOT designed to remove every drop of oil from the working surfaces; this would leave the engine's "top-end" vulnerable to "thermal seizure" (fusion), through friction.

Just one other thing..."Oil Recovery"!

After you shut down the engine, oil begins to return to the oil pan. Most of the oil, especially when hot, returns very quickly. But some oil is not able to get back home as quickly due to restrictions, such as in...hydrolic lifters, push rods, crankshaft mains, journals, and in the lifter valley...etc; it could take up to an hr or 2, before you'll see 98% of what's still in the engine.

So, unless after you drained the oil, you waited 1 to 2 hrs to recover the full amount, you will come up short! Hope this helps.

I've got 25 yrs in commercial/Indus'l H.V.A.C., and 10 yrs as automotive technician w/auto electrical specialty. Automotive field was first, I made my move twd's the hvac field back in 1986.
