FINALLY got my compressor hooked up and ordered the faceplate to move the air-chuck to the rear.

Also ordered some pouches to organize my gear on the Blue Ridge Overland Gear MOLLE seat back organizer.

Took it in for the last free maintenance at 25K miles and started debating whether to mount the new hi-lift on the rear or the side....

Mild maintenace day and a good learning opportunity. Replaced the gear oil in both differentials and the transfer case. No issues with that. The "learning" opportunity was to pressure wash all the mud off the undercarriage and sliders before working under it. Dried mud kept flaking off on me while I worked.

Had a little too much fun in the mud the week before. So tomorrow I will be washing and detailing it

Replaced majority of stock interior lights with LED replacements.

Anxious to see how bright it is once the sun has gone down, and to see what type of "behind the 4Runner" light I get with the hatch door open and the two hatch lights replaced with LED's.

Hit a bird last night. I'm not sure what he was doing flying around at night, but it's possible my 40" Rigid tricked him into thinking it was time to get up for breakfast....

I pulled over to check for damage, and found him wedged in between the Rigid bar and the wind deflector on my roof rack. I grabbed my snowbrush to poke the carcass out just as a gust of wind came up - I was rewarded with a facefull of feathers. Fml.

If I suddenly disappear from the forum, it may be due to some sort of avian flu.

Lift on, new wheels and tires on, and aligned! It rubbed, so I removed a piece of fender lining that covers body mount to give more clearance.

Technically a few days ago - but I swapped on a set of trusty BFG AT's - Stock 265/70R17 C-Load Range:

I always seemed to have balancing issues with my past two Toyota 4x4's with 6-Lug wheels and BFG AT's. I ALWAYS used Discount Tire (over 15 years now), and I believe their old Tire Balancer was to blame (used the conical adapters to "seat" the 6-Lug's large center opening - invariably leaving room for error in the "true-ness" of the mount).

Well, it appears Discount Tire installed new tire balancers - "Hunter Quick Match" models. They have a cool adapter that rests flat on the rear of the wheel with a lip that fits into the opening, and a "top plate" that has 6-Studs on it to secure the wheel from the lug-nut holes (forget what that type of mount is called on our Toyota's - is it "lug-centric"?). There is basically NO room for error that I could see - so unless the tech simply isn't taking the readings all the way to "0.0" - then there is no reason not to end up with a perfect balance.

Regardless - after a good 30 minutes and some choice words by the tech (tech was also my salesman!), the tires were balanced and ride extremely well. I was tickled to death on my drive home - NO VIBRATIONS!!! Looks great, too IMNSHO (love the stock 17" SR5 wheels). Let's see how long this holds up

I also have a set of 1" Spacers from Addicted Off-Road on the way to see if I like them.

All tires have a dot from manf. all the tech needs to do is have the dot match the valve stem and it should require very little weight to balance. Many tech do not know this.

The problems I had with BFG AT's in the past seemed to stem from the "clunky" cone adapters Discount Tire had to use to balance the 6-Lug wheels - they seemed to leave lots of room for "slop" - which would directly affect how "true" the balance was (rim would not be completely centered/aligned on the balancing machine). Then, my previous issues were exacerbated by driving hundreds of miles with balance issues present (went through 3 sets of rear-axle seals on my '99 Tacoma!) - and I believe that deformed the tires - this then made a perfect balance impossible...

I also believe the old Tire Balancers they had were NOT the "road force" type - but I believe their new "Hunter Quick Match" balancers do include Road Force balancing - and they have the proper "Lug-Centric" adapter plates to securely mount (and center) the 6-Lug Toyota wheels properly...

Finally stepped up to 285s. got a GREAT deal on some slightly used hankook rt03.

had a wee bit of rubbing but i fixed it in the walmart parking lot. Walmart tire and lube center charged $26 for mount and balance.

Looks good! I've loved my hankooks for the 5,000 miles I've put on them!

After returning from the "laser" car wash, I was planning out the transmission cooler install and noticed a little surprise from the "free" dealership oil change. It's a busted bolt that holds on the skid plate (left & right side broke).

Went to the local mountains in So Cal, found a little snow. In 2WD was able to feel the Trac doing its thing. Set off the VSC beeper too. in 4WD nothing slipped, no beeps as expected. I want to try some real snow as I've seen in other posts.
