A few weeks ago, a dust devil managed to pickup some big rocks and covered my OEM windshield with hundreds of pits and cracks. I had it replaced for about $550 on Tuesday, then managed to make it to Thursday (literally the next time it left the driveway) when a dump truck in the opposite direction skipped a rock off my new windshield causing 2 cracks. :brick:

That sucks eh. It's a hassle getting it replaced once never mind twice. The glass guy gave me a receipt that says $720 but whatever.:shrug: Insurance here covers all glass at no fault which means no deductible or rate increase.
Had to pay for the tint though.

May I ask you, do they have a special pre-curved strip for this purpose and is it installed on the inside of the window? If so, any trouble with adhesion by the "dot matrix" around the rear view mirror?

Nope it's a straight strip on the inside applied the same as any other window and it adheres to the dots the same as the glass. Mine is also narrower in the center than at the ends but I think it's just more pronounced in that pic because that windshield has a lot more curve to it.

Those are generally the "scrap" piece of tint from doing the rear window on a car - the arc matches the arc of the top of the rear window. The tint place offers to do the top of the windshield for cheap ($20-$30), which is pure profit as the piece would be thrown away otherwise.

I would fix that with a rope plug and not bother changing to the spare. You could use this as an excuse to switch out to some good tires, though.

Just drove 1,200 miles to Hilton Head and back on vacation. Got my injured self down and back safely but no offroad this time. I packed one week's worth of crap including my shelter (4 adults) and beach chairs into the back only. I determined after lots of observation (and beer) that if you have to use a car top carrier or hitch mount carrier you are an amateur packer with no spatial comprehension lol.

Did you also pack one week's worth food, firewood, gasoline, drinking water, and water for everything else for 4 adults? I can go 1200 miles from the end of my driveway in many directions and never see a gas station, let alone a grocery store.
