The shin guards are bolted to the bottom of the shock to protect the shaft. After talking to A LOT of people the consensus was boots just trap moisture and grit in with the shaft pitting it and shortening the life of the shock. Icon makes and sells the "shinn guard" out of stainless and it keeps most of the objects from pitting the shaft/longer shock life. Here they are....

I'm partial to the aluminum until TRD or URD comes out with a supercharger to offset the power/weight ratio adding all of the upgrades........

Installed my OME 3" lift last week and spent all day today at Uwharrie National Forest testing it out. And now I have a damn squeak that I can't pinpoint.
