What did you do to/in your 5th Gen today?!

couple weeks ago I moved the USB port from center console under the a/c controls to the glove box. still wasn't satisfied with what was going on. i wanted my phone hooked up to the usb port so it could charge, as well as be a source for music. i don't like using bluetooth. so...got a 2m iPhone cable, drilled a hole into that little door in the glove box, put a grommet in the hole, ran the cable behind the stereo, through the center console, zip tied to pre-existing wires, drilled another hole in the armrest console, put in another grommet, and ran the cable up into there. so now i have an easily accessible cable for charging and music that I can hide as needed.

only grump now is that the cable is white. next task will be figuring out how to make the cable slide more easily in and out of the center console. the s-bend the cable has to make isn't very smooth, so i'm thinking about either filing the little notch that is pre-existing, or just taking the drill to it and making another hole.

the is the only thing my Subaru did better than the 4Runner (not including gas mileage).

For everyone asking where I put the hid ballasts ...




Perfect spot on both sides on inner fenders to slide them into. Pic shows drivers side next to battery..other side is in pretty much identical spot..

I know the trailer is a 1000 pounds, as for as the gen 1 I looked it up on google and I found it was around 2,500-2,700.

If I would have backed it on the trail it would have been a smooth ride. But as far as power, it was great.

Changed the oil for the first time since I bought it a year ago (less than 5000 miles)

and installed some rock lights.

Well, I threw some plastiweld and some bondo on the front bumper where I jackasses myself into a drainage ditch in the snow (mildly acceptable reason if it wasn't your vehicle that took the damage)

That said, should be fairly well un noticeable by mid day tomorrow.

I did order a set of rocky road outfitters sliders, a budbuilt quasi hidden winch mount, a smitty winch, and frankly a desire to not hate life.

I used 3M extreme fasteners (aka badass Velcro) to secure the ladder top plate and the lower attachment point instead of double sided adhesive. The weight rating is the same as the 3M extreme double sided tape, but this allows me to remove the ladder if I need to by unbolting the lower bracket and pulling it off. So far so good! No flexing or moving while climbing!


Does that mean that anyone can pull it off with minimum effort? I'm just asking.

If by anyone you man a random person that wants to steal it, not really. The bolts that secure it on the bottom are button head socket cap screws which are too close to the bumper to remove without having the hatch open. It's as theft proof as any other Gobi ladder, so far as I can tell!
