Went and bought my second battery today from my local Battery Expert store. Just need to make myself a Stand to bolt on and I will be ready for install.

Use double nuts with the top nut being a Teflon nut. Add a lock washer in between for extra security. Cinch them together with wrenches. This is very hard to loosen with a single wrench so it may keep thieves from taking it.

Consider a padlock in the middle, through a couple of chain links if needed. Wrap it all in soft, clear plastic tube (or a section of bike tire tube) to keep it from rattling. DIY to the max...

Creek Crosssing

Just got back from a weekend 4 wheeling in Anza Borrego Desert State Park. Not very many wildflowers yet. They need more rain out there. Drove up a rocky ravine at the end of Coyote Canyon in 4 wheel low. A-track not required. The stream crossings were small and shallow this year, but I'm glad I finished my Scuba Mod before this trip..

Hiked up Cougar Canyon, a very rugged steep climb along the stream where only a bighorn sheep could find solid footing. Drove out Rockhouse Road to Burton Trail. This trail would be better on a cool day or early in the morning.

I also have a drawer full of gun cable locks (rubber coated cable lock) that might just be long enough. :50cal:

That's a perfect option!
Have them on my 4Runner and previously on my FJ. Works perfect!

My 4Runner (Bismarck) maybe doesn't look much but it's a killer. Literally.
Not long time ago it destroyed beautiful bird, and last night it hit some small animal (I'm not sure if it was a cat, small dog or something else).

Bad, bad, very bad Bismarck.

I got both encounters recorded by dash camera, and reviewing the video frame by frame I noticed I had 0.1 sec to see the bird, and 0.2sec to see the cat (or dog or whatever it was). No chance to react whatsoever.

Not true.

First of all, hitting any animal (dog, cat, coyote, racoon, squirrel, bird or even frog or snake) in not coll at all (at least for me).

That night there was no way to stop (heavy traffic behind me and no shoulder), so I turned around, drove back with all lights on, but there was nothing on the road. Parked near by and checked both sides of the road (ditches). No even trace of anything. I also checked under the car to see if nothing got sucked in. Na damage to the bumper or fender either. I was doing 35mph at that time (coasting to the stop sign) so maybe soft plastic bumper saved that poor creature.

As for the bird I am sure it's gone - no way it could survive the contact at 60mph.

Anyway, last night I checked my Osram LED Fog lights if they can blind oncoming traffic when I use them at night (nothing sophisticated - just squat 100 yards in front of the truck and see at what height I am below the cut-off). Osram LED Fogs have black/white cut off with almost no glare above the cut off line. And because they are aimed below headlights they can be seen as white front accent lights.

So I decided to use my Osram LED Fogs when driving at night - flat wide projection lets me see both shoulders if front of me where low beams don't put any light. For country roads driving at night 2010-2013 T4R low beams suck big time. I don't know about 2014+ models but projectors in 2012 Mazda 5 where much better than that. Definitely I'm going to convert my low beams to projectors soon.

Sometimes it's a hard call on stopping to check on an animal that you've hit on the road. Is traffic too heavy? Is it possible to turn around? Was it just a (possibly) rabid skunk...?

my GSDs like hanging out the back as well, i would recommend having an exhaust shop reroute the end of the pipe 90deg to exit out of the passenger side behind the rear mudflap.
this will reduce (practically eliminate) exhaust from getting caught in the vortex/eddies/whatever-it's-called behind the truck and being sucked into the vehicle thru the rear window when accelerating.
