Keeps your head from bumping into metal while you working in the engine compartment :cowboy:
For me it is a mounting platform for underhood LED lights. I don't believe in 3M sticky tape in places where the temperature varies from minus 40 to plus 180 F.
I believe it was standard on all 2012 Limited, other models that year did not even have that option. I don't know about later models.

Yup. Lost mine a little over 2 years ago while crossing a ditch. It began peeling on one side and I could hear the tabs popping. I thought about taping it back for the trip home and just decided to finish the job. Rode around like that until I got the CBI bumper this year.

Front fender mod
Since I'm deployed, I walked the ole' lady through the fender mod to accommodate for the 275/65r18's put on a few days ago. Lots of rubbing. I figured it was a 50/50 chance and I definitely lost. But, the wife came through and got the job done.

Warning Rant
Went to remove roof rails to plastidip. Following video instructions rails themselves came off easy. Go to remove cross rails with big hand adjustable knobs (which should've been the easiest part), nope! Whoever put them on torqued them so tight, needed pliers to loosen them up. But Murphy decided one would be stripped and unable to be removed. Totally ground up two of the knobs. Working in hot sun sweating and cursing like the devil I decide to call dealer service. Of course you can get an appointment in two hours. So off I go to hopefully get the stripped nut removed and get two new knobs. Hopefully. (Just breath!)

Haha, that's what I thought. She always said if it came down to it she wouldn't mind being a mechanic... about an hour later and after running into a few snags, she said screw that. lol, She soon realized when working on a vehicle, things don't always go as planned.

Dusted and cleaned the interior last night. I used Swiffers to remove the thick layer of trail dust, then went over everything with some Meguier's interior wet wipes. Looks like new again!
Also cleaned out the crud in all the door jams… stuff that gets missed by the car wash.

Well I'm impressed. Showed the service dept manager the offending knobs and he says, "These are not supposed to be adjusted. There set at a certain spot and are tightened down so they can't be moved." Yeah, that's why they have large hand adjustable knobs and slide slots all the way down the side rails! So he said he would see if they were covered under warranty.
45 minutes later he came out and said they got the stripped bolt out breaking the knob in the process. He said the can't get the knob / bolts separately so they gave me a new cross rail. Evidently these folks understand the value of brand loyalty and word of mouth advertising.
My black Plastidiped rails are drying as we speek.

Got my 20k service last week, went out of town for five days, came back to the parking lot at PDX to find a puddle under my front end. Stuck my finger in it... Oil. Idled it for a minute and checked to make sure I had enough left to get to the dealer (rhymes with Schmoyal Scmoore Toyota) and went straight there. Sitting in the lobby while the same dingus who jacked it up last week checks to "make sure it's really leaking". �� I've always changed my own but figured why not use the Toyota Care? Well good thing this was the last free one so I will go back to doing it myself.
Edit: Turns out he put two gaskets on the filter. Forgetting to put a gasket on at all seems more likely than putting two on, but ok. For what it's worth, I'm happy with how they handled it and they did apologize. Guessing the extreme heat here the last few days is what forced it out at a heavy enough rate to create a noticeable puddle. I'm glad it did, rather than slowly leaking out over time.

Had a blast! Took the 4Runner out to Hidden Falls, a local 4WD/Off-road Park. Great to get out there and begin learning how to drive off-road and get a feel for the vehicle. Good times...by the end of it, the rig was so dirty, but that's part of the fun. Now to the car wash...
