What did you do to/in your 5th Gen today?!

Installed 35W 5500K HID in the lows. This seems to be the most polarizing mod on this forum for some reason! :spy:

More polarizing than installing the infamous N-Fab nerf bar style steps? Looks good man and don't sweat it.

Tuesday night, installed DC Power Engineering 270-XP alternator with “Big 3 Upgrade” wiring mod .

Tonight, installed Sprintbooster with green light programing. Took longer to wire tie harness than install booster.

Threw on some locking lug nuts and this thing...I know the torque spec is 22ft lbs, but the rear bolts got pretty tight about 1/2 way in. Is that normal for a TRD pro skid?

Edit: Searched and found out yes it is. Removed the bolts, cleaned the threads, and used anti-seize to prevent disaster.

I just wanted to comment anyways for others information. Front bolts on the skid plate are held into place with a spacer and a captive nut on the other side, they must be in the corresponding hole to provide proper fitment. Do front first. The rear bottles do torque correctly. They are a bugger to get in there all the way. I do use some type of penetrating oil whenever installing on these areas. not only do ou get loads of debris yet also the elements takes it tole on the bolts and the threads. This not only helps protect but cleans them off. Some of the bolts that I know that will need to be removed often I apply anti-seize on to not ever have a problem later down the line.

I did get my BFG 285/70R17 KO2 installed. I arrived late last night from Ft Benning to find them nestled under my tarp behind my boat. My UPS and My fedex man really do get me and hide things of mine all the time in the secure area under the tarp behind a gate. Christmas baked goods are a definite this year if I can get the spouse to do so while I am away at training this year over the holidays.

I will post up pictures in my build thread tomorrow. Yet, FYI we came home to find over a 30 Degree difference between where we are and FT Benning. The high at Ft Bennign was 103 with an average of 98. Todays high was 64 with a low last night of 43. I am gonna get so sick. Fall is definitely in the air and the leaves are really starting to change for sure in the Blue Ridge Mountains. Might be time for a good drive with your spouse up here somewhere really soon. Quite breathtaking.

With the weather turning hospitable down here, I did some small stuff since I got out of work at a reasonable time.

Finished some updated wiring in the cargo area. Put in a switch to turn the battery voltage display on and off and even put a relay in line, just in case. Surprisingly I made a schematic, executed the schematic I made, and it worked! No fiddling with a voltmeter or frustrated huffing around. I think I'm getting the hang of the electrical mods! Yay!

Then I installed a second rear recovery point since the recent turning of the exhast to the side opened up the clearance to install it. Bought if off JEMP1003 so long ago and I finally got it installed.

One last thing:
Anybody know the torque required on the factory tow points in the rear?

Bolts all sheared except one bolt which amazingly held the tent on the roof rack and prevented it from sliding further.

Man, that's pretty scary! Are there normally 8 bolts securing your RTT? I only use 4 bolts for my CVT and Bajarack mounts, but seeing this has me rethinking the safety of that configuration.

Glad you didn't get any major damage for the RTT.

Just drove into Fort Collins, CO from Chico, CA. Suggestions of things to do or check it? I'm here for the next 36 hours!

I went to 4WheelParts for tire rotation before leaving for Utah. The mechanic broke a rear wheel lug... One of these days. He said he torque them as usual at 100lbf. After checking in Toyota manual, its is supposed to be 83lbf for steel, and 76lbf for my TE wheels.

I lost a wheel on the highway a few years ago after a local shop over torqued my wheels, broke 5 out of 6 studs. I would be telling your mechanic he's paying to replace all 24 studs.

Today, I changed out my Total Chaos LCA uninalls, and took off the arb awning for the winter. Snow's coming!

I taught my 4runner to "stay". I parked it last night in the garage and it didn't move when I got up to drive it this morning. So I gave it some fuel as a treat.

I said I would take some pictures of the BFG 285/70r17 that I installed on the vehicle the other day. We went out to the Cohutta Wilderness to explore some and get some photos checking on the status of the trees changing their leaf colors. Not yet for the trees but all pics in the links for the thread in my build.

Pictures of the tires. I think they work well with the Toytec TRD Kit.

Make me worry even more...

When I came home, I check if they were over tighten but they didn't seem to be. Maybe there was a defect on that lug and he was the unlucky winner, as I do.

If he really torque them at 100lbf, even if Toyota recommend only 83lbf for steel wheel (same studs on all 4Runner I guess), that should no break them.
