Eagle Lakes - Tahoe NF

Went wheeling at Eagle Lakes in Tahoe NF over the weekend with a group from TacomaWorld (NorCal T4R.org is always DEAD :rip.

It snowed over night and rained a bunch before that, so the trail was mostly a river with ice, snow and rocks. This was my first time ever wheeling in these types of conditions so it was really good learning experience. I'm really glad i went with a fun/chill group so we were all able to help spot each other.

Really stoked to have done this trail finally! We ALMOST made it to the lake but the water crossings got too deep for comfort for our rigs. One of the guys scouted the trail up ahead and he said the water came up above is 35's! He was in a lifted Lexus GX on 35's with a snorkel and SAS Front so he could make it further, but advised us that were hidden boulders under the ice.

I recall reading something about this a while back. I am curious, what is the part #? It should be printed on the side of the element if you don't have the box. I have a few on the shelf, all have the pre filter.

Showing 17801-38051 for teh one with the pre-filter. I wouldn't worry about it. Might be there for dust, but i've seen them mostly advertised as a snow filter for snowy climates.

Thanks, the pre-filter is definitely there to capture something superfine like dust, the fibers are so densely packed it's surprising it doesn't affect air flow. I doubt Toyota QC would mess up bad enough to ship a filter missing a component so I'm not too worried about it. I am on dusty back roads quite often in the summer, so I'll just check it sooner than I normally would to see how things look. Thanks for the help!

Hmm, i dont yhink they have "bum" ones, just different types, for whatever reason. Just to confirm 17801-38051 is the part number I've got.

Had a weird issue where the dip stick was extremely difficult was to pull out (think excalibur)... once released, coated the top portion with a thin coating of "Fluid Film". Moving nicely now.

I'm also planning to have the suspension beefed up and lifted a bit when I take it in to have the bumper put on. Unfortunately I may have to wait until after New Year's to get it done.

After that, the next big change will be upgrading the skids.

Moved from San Antonio to Phoenix this weekend. Excited to explore the trails in Arizona and the Southwest. Left AZ in '06 to go to school and I am bringing home my future bride (and somehow managed to fill a giant truck). Couldn't be more excited!

Welcome back! I recently relocated to AZ myself and it is more than expected and close to other great places to get out in. Congrats!

That's the only thing I plan on swapping over. Not sure what else is possible. The white SUV is my Montero.

Took my TDI in for the buy-back. I stuck a deal to sell it the day before the scandal broke, the buyer backed out naturally. I had to sit on this since last September and put the 4Runner on hold, but it all worked out in the end... plus 6K for my trouble. So far, I'm not doing very well at waiting to spend it.

Haha, I have my turn in appointment scheduled for the 6th! Made the same jump, from a MK6 TDI to a 5th gen 4runner. Parked the VW once the court confirmed the settlement and picked up the 4runner. Fantastic upgrade, but it felt like driving on mashed potatoes comparatively until I got used to it.

I did the exact same thing. It's been paid off and parked for months. I finally drove it today, for the last time, and almost forgot how much I really loved that car. Bitter sweet, but a lot more sweet!

Hahaha! I am going to be turning in my TDI this coming year so I can buy a used 2016 Quicksand TDRP. I will miss my VW...it has been a great car(wagon)but I am looking forward to owning a T4R!!! I have always liked 4R's but drove way too many miles per year to validate owning one. Can't wait until I have enough saved to pull the trigger!!
