Performed a Christmas miracle. Trying to change the front diff oil and could not get the drain plug out. Ended up stripping the damn thing in a progression of attempts. Then, out came the welder and the sacrificial parts. Need to go get a new drain plug after the holidays.

At least it was a Kobalt! I had to do this once with a SnapOn on a vintage bike! Very expensive mistake!!!

Expensive would have been buying a stuffed and load front diff. But I would have been happy to sacrifice a hundred dollar tool to not to have to replace the whole front diff.

Improvise. Adapt. Overcome.

Strolled up to Lake Arrowhead to catch the snow fall. Got stuck in 8" of snow, had to dig my way out. Lived and learned. Overall, had a great time with the family.

I didn't really have a choice!! I needed the part off. It was the last engine mount bolt and I wasn't about to put all the removed ones back in, it was also about 2am! But, I should've looked harder because I had a craftsman metric set in the truck.

Made it up to Wolf Creek, enjoyed a foot of powder. Too cold and Windy to ski so ended up snowshoeing for the day. Perfect way to spend Christmas.

Decided I'll order a new drain plug, but install will have to wait for the next fluid change. Since the threads are fine, put a little more weld on the spot that was not accessible while installed, cut off the socket part and smoothed out the ends, installed the new washer and put the plug in and filled. Can now remove and install with either a box wrench or socket.

Yes. Just me and the family. A Taco came by to help but neither one of us had proper tow ropes. Ended up shoveling out the tires and finally got the traction we needed.
