Had the Rotopax mounted up on my Prinsu for my latest trip. So Rotopax sells two lines currently, their rotomolded Rotopax fuel cans and their blow molded Fuelpax. Pretty much most other plastic gas cans are blow molded. Rotopax seems to get a bad rap because of the price so the Fuelpax at least brings them in line. Downsides being you can't stack them on top of each other like the Rotopax line. Picked up the 3.5 Gallon Fuelpax for $39.99 (has since gone up to $49.99) and the lock mount for $60.
To get it mounted to the Prinsu with it's t-slot design you have to pick up a few bits at Home Depot, it won't work with the supplied bracket. You'll need 1/4" x 2 1/2" stainless steel carriage bolts, 1/4" washers, locking washers, and nut. I also used a nylon washer so the steel washer doesn't damage the rails. The carriage bolts will slide right into the t-slots and then you can put the lock mount right into the them. Secure it down with the nuts and washers. Now you can add the Fuelpax and lock it down.
Overall I'm more than happy with the result and the Fuelpax seem like a great alternative. I appreciate the low profile especially since it's being mounted on the roof. I'd rather not have to stack jerry cans up there in such a tall position. They're also coming out with a few other sizes as well including a 4.5 gal version.

So I am working on this same setup this weekend. I have 2x 3.5gallon FuelPaX, and my mounts should be here today.
One thing bothers me: why is no one mounting these on their narrower side? This would allow for venting without having to remove them from their mounts. Also, I am fairly nervous about laying down gas cans on my roof. What happens if they leak?
Just curious.

Not today, but last weekend...mounted up an ARB 2500 awning to a 3-bar Yakima system using Bomber Products Awn-Lock Mounts. So glad Yakima makes an option for adding a third crossbar above the front doors on the 4Runner!

Yakima Crossbar Above Front Door
What setup are you using to mount the front crossbar? I.E. towers & landing pads?

Go to this Yakima link and enter your vehicle info. For Select Fit, look in the list for "Raised Siderails/Hybrid". That'll give you the info for the towers.
But in a nutshell, it's a pair of Baseline Towers with the BaseClip 175. I'm using 66" roundbars. If you use roundbars, you have to get the roundbar adapters for the Baseline Towers.
I was stupid happy that I could achieve a workable full-roof rack option without spending $1400 for an aftermarket rack and also re-using a ton of my Yakima stuff. I should have enough flexibility now to also position my Skybox 18 far enough forward to open the rear hatch completely.

Thx, fyi, I was able to install and cut without taking the bumper off. There was enough clearance. Only had to remove the TRD skid.

As of now I don't know of any brackets that would allow you to mount them on the narrow side. You could fab something up I'm sure. I suppose it's not optimal to mount them flat like that but I think Rotopax designed them with that intention. If I had a rear ladder or bumper then I would probably mount it vertically without issue. The advantage of mounting them flat on the roof would be keeping overall vehicle height lower. I think if I was going to mount them vertically then I'd just get some scepter mfc cans.
So far no leaking but only time will tell.

I put a Tepui tent on top. Was surprised to find out that it improved the handling on graded roads. Ass dosent kick out as easily anymore due to added weight over rear axle.

I accidentally drove over extended curbing the other day pulling into BJ's in my Trail.
If I was in my other car I'm pretty sure I would have ripped off the lower valance, dent my rim & Damage the tyre. But the 4Runner just drove over it like it wasn't even there. Good Stuff!

I copied this from another post when I ordered mine:
Genuine Toyota 15620-31060 Oil Filter Cap Assembly
For Toyota Trucks only: The ONLY change that you will need to do, is to take out that original perforated tube from the plastic Oil Filter Cap Assy, and switch it out with that "shorter" perforated tube [which you will discard] that's inside the new aluminum assembly.........reason being that the truck filter is longer than the Toyota sedans [no need to switch out the spring that's located under the perforated tube, as they both do the same task]. The only tool needed for the switch out, is a medium sized flat bladed screw driver, as you will be partially bending [simply by rotating the screw driver a bit] two small sheet metal petals/wings that keep the tube in place, inside the assembly. If you bend them just enough to have them pointing straight up...and now...push down on the tube, and rotate past the post [you'll see what I mean, when looking down, and inside the assembly].....and out it will come. Now, grab the longer tube, and reverse the process to install it. It's not at all difficult, or complicated...and once you see it....you'll recognize the remove/install process.

Many people have painted them, powder coated them, or plastidipped them. I'd either powder coat or plastidip. I wouldn't waste me time with paint. It's going to chip off and it'll be a pain in the ass to remove. Powder coat will be way more durable. Plastidip will easily peel off for a re-do.
