More camping...

What do you do after 2 weeks on the road, put the RTT on the truck for more camping... we wanted to head out of the heat, for a little MTB action, so we took off with no plan at all. By accident, we found an awesome little campground near Pescadero CA. At first, we were told that it was full, but a little sweet talking got us a spot. This is Butano SP, it's small, quiet and beautiful. If you come to Santa Cruz to ride, I highly recommend a little drive north for this little gem.

Explored some of the chiracahuas, rustlers park and bearfoot park. Both pretty cool places, temp gauge said 95 but it felt amazing!

I put some new 285's on and they rub on the body mounts. Awesome!! I just turned my very capable off-road vehicle into a turd that can't even take a speed bump in the parking lot, much less flex out and stuff a tire. Good thing I still have my 255/75's.

What did you expect since you also have Spidertrax spacers on? Just get the BMC done, or remove the Spidertrax...

Drove up Nate Harrison Grade (4000 ft elevation gain) to Palomar Mountain State Park, had a vegan lunch (not by choice) at Mother's Kitchen, visited the Palomar Observatory, then circled around Lake Henshaw past Warner Springs to make the eastern ascent up to the top of Palomar Mountain (6100 ft) via Palomar Divide Truck Trail. (I know in the grand scheme of things the altitude numbers aren't that impressive, but for San Diego, they don't get much higher...).

Note: The peak of Palomar Mountain, is NOT accessible from the observatory, as CalTech has the connecting road closed off (was told due to dust affecting the optics and mechanisms).

Just realized my SCS Ray 10's rub in reverse at full lock with my stock tires. Tires are hitting the front fender. I was thinking it was a wet brake type of noise until I realized what that sound was. Guess the 1 inch wider wheel makes a difference.

Leaving from the Poway area, including stopping at Boucher Hill Lookout, Mother's Kitchen for lunch, the Palomar Observatory, and dropping down the East Grade Road to Hwy 79 to find the Palomar Divide Truck Trail trailhead (Forest Route 9S07, 33.330693, -116.709272), the trip pretty much took the whole day (9 am to 6 pm). And it was pretty toasty, even up in the mountains (90 at 5000 ft, 100 in Warner Springs), so make sure your AC works.

Palomar Divide Truck Trail is easy to moderate. Although it is mostly one lane, a lot of the bottom part is paved, and the rest was recently graded. It's mostly a matter of keeping an eye out for oncoming vehicles/a place to pass, and some loose soil near the top. Any stock 4Runner with 4x4 or AT tires should be able to do it easily (my truck has K02's, which always helps).

FYI: "High Point Lookout" is on a spur of Palomar Divide Truck Trail, NOT on High Point Rd, so stay on Palomar Divide Truck Trail (High Point Rd descends to Aguanga, and I don't know if it's gates are open or closed). The Lookout is on the peak of Palomar Mountain, and there is a USFS Lookout Tower on top of it: 33.363234, -116.836303 .
