What did you do to/in your 5th Gen today?!

This past weekend, I took a break with my little sister and her boyfriend and went up to Yosemite for a few days. We stayed at the Diamond O campground right outside the park entrance off Evergreen and what a great campsite - next to a nice big creek with plenty of places to swim or lay out and take in the scenery. Nice and quiet too.

I'm happy to report that high altitude, high temperature (106 degrees F) hill climbing in the 5th gen 4Runner is no longer a problem as it was when the car was brand new, thinking back to my Mono Lake adventure a year ago, just after I bought her. The boys at Toyota were right, the ECU just needed some time to adjust and learn and it's done just that. Even with 1038 lbs of new stuff on the car, it handled very well.

Here are a few photos I took of the rig on the trip around Yosemite and Evergreen. My factory skids are off in preparation for the new RCI skids, due back from powder coating next week, along with my sPOD bracket and a little tin light cover for the rear hitch gate license plate. Enjoy and if you haven't gotten the rig out in a while, get out there!

Had time to kill before a drs apt up north so found another access trail to explore. Found another water crossing but this one was manageable. lol I also found a rock which I did not see that made alot of disturbing noise on my skid plates. I will have to crawl under it tomorrow to assess the carnage. I think the Mercedes parked at the beginning of the trail would benefit from some mods. Maybe long travel with 35's and skids.

I have always been curious about these... How well do they work? How long do they last? What is used to gauge their performance?

I got one last month off of Amazon that was a different brand, and it wouldn't hold a charge right out the box. So, I returned it. I have not revisited this concept, but I would like to do so...

I shoot with a Nikon D810, which gets the credit. It's a great low light shooter and very good night shooter. One of the best for astrophotography. Lenses include the FX trifecta - 16-24 Ultra wide f/2.8, 24-70 f/2.8, 70-200 VR f/2.8, 35mm f/1.8 prime, 85mm f/1.4 prime.

The shots I included here were 24-70 and 70-200.

I prefer to shoot full manual for the greatest control. I used to shoot professionally before working full time in the software world so I've developed the skill over years.

Not today but on sunday I blew up my engine. Yep. It happened. Hole in the block. 53K on odometer. Hydrolocked it a couple months ago, replaced everything and she was running fine. On the way to work on sunday boom. Dead. Ouch.

That rock left some nice gouges down my front skid, factory mid skid, cross member, tank skid and rear dif housing. I've been planning on getting a set of RCI aluminum skids down the road but now may have to bump them up the list and consider steel instead. My front aluminum skid is holding up but has several gouges and a dent and the trails I drive are full of rocks. The cheesy factory oil pan skid is earning it's keep. That poor thing is taking a beating and hanging in there, lol. I'm also going to get a dif skid asap, it's getting pretty banged up. The [MENTION=131444]C4 Fabrication[/MENTION] steel gas tank skid is bullet proof. Rocks just polish that sucker. Love it!

Seriously. If you have an aftermarket bumper and/ or had to remove the front passenger wheel well plastic cover then the intake is completely exposed. I toasted my engine going through less than 18" of water. My own fault. I should have seen how exposed it was and rerouted it inside the engine bay and blocked that hole. Would be way cheaper than the safari snorkel.

First off, sorry for your loss. That sucks thinking you are back running smooth after replacing a bunch of parts, only to have it go spectacularly like that.

Removing Seats?

Update with additional photos of seats laid down and also with side panels installed. They use self adhesive Velcro tape.
