What did you do to/in your 5th Gen today?!

I took care of a couple things that I’ve been meaning to do since I bought my 2016 4Runner a few weeks ago. First up: the hitch receiver was rusting, and I won’t stand for rust on my new-ish car. Bumper and receiver come off:

I snagged the PVC I use for portable target stands and a coat hanger for a quick and dirty painting stand:

All cleaned up and ready to paint:

Here’s what I used:

Primed:

Painted (poorly; whatever, it’s a hitch receiver) and drying:

And back on the car:

While the bumper was off and I was waiting for paint to dry, I also went ahead and did the rear diff breather relocation. I did it slightly different than most of the others I’ve seen around here. I just stuck it up behind the fuel filler behind the rear wheel well since it seems like it stays pretty clean and dry up there:

Ran it along the fuel filler hose toward the diff:

Swapped the old breather out for the threaded hose fitting:

And hooked everything up with a generous extra loop for movement:

Other things taken care of this morning:
-Installed front license plate bracket, license plates, and registration sticker
-Checked the spare tire (grimy but brand new, right at 35 PSI)
-Took the dog for a ride to the vet (he likes the back window)

Had daughter #1 hop out for cinematography and took a still from the video she shot... so much fun!

Installed OME 3 in lift, spidertrax spacers, ARB diff breather kit. Not too bad for a days work.

How do the black plastic trims come off the front bumper to remove the fog lights? DO they just in clip or does the bumper have to come off to remove them? Pulled on them today and they feel very tight. Didn't want to damage anything so I left it for another day.

I feel your pain lol. Stock tires came off at 325 miles when the lift went on for 285/70/17 BFG KO2's then 5000 miles later I took those off and went with a 295/70/17 Ridge Grappler. So far I'm happy with the grapplers. We'll see how they do in the snow.

Installed Bilstein 5100s upfront set at .85" with rears completely stock. Learned that the springs are different on passenger and driver side, so basically ended up doing the install twice. Haha. Really like the look, and love the feel. Nose dive is a lot better. Even driving feels more stable

Installed mesh grill (zip ties are the trick), and blacked out roof rails.

Well I have not posted up here in a really long time. Always wished I was able to get the scratch together to start the mods on my 5th gen, but alas my poor baby is dead. If any of you ever wondered how safe these 4runners really are look at this picture.

The kid who hit me was in a brand new taco. He ran a red light and was moving awfully fast. I will never nor have I ever had a bad thing to say about my 4runner. We would get another but I need better towing capacity so moving to a truck.

My wife, dog, and I rode Forest Service roads and trails all afternoon from Springer Mountain over across Hightower Gap and coming out by Frank D. Merrill Army Ranger camp.

I helped a guy from a hiker hostel in a big E350 van change his blown tire because he had no jack. Always carry good recovery gear, chances are it'll be used to fix someone else. :thumb:

We also passed this group who just happened to be staying in one of our favorite camp sites.

Thursday

Made a trip to SoCal, stopped at Oceano dunes and rented a small quad for my son. The T4 was the chase car.

Aired down to 15, handled the deep, soft stuff just fine. Did a gentle face plant at the bottom of a dune 2 times. Watched the steepness after that.

Aired back up to 35 when I thought it was ok. Had a hard time in shallow stuff and used the locker. Since it was locked had to show my son a sand donut.

Drove the girlfriend and pup up to Pine Mountain Recreation Area toward NE Georgia. First "trip" in the new 4Runner, our dog definitely loved the new room in the back!

We hiked around 5 miles then the 4Runner did a great job carrying me back home to the recliner
