Here's something I came up with recently. My wife Cris has some trouble getting into Megaweapon, even when using the sliders as a step. So I needed something portable she could step onto first. This in-ground irrigation control box does the trick:

I just added a bolt to hold the lid in place, and an old camera strap makes picking it up a little easier.

Camped just outside the NP so we could have a fire since temps were down in the 30s.

While the bumper was off and I was waiting for paint to dry, I also went ahead and did the rear diff breather relocation. I did it slightly different than most of the others I’ve seen around here. I just stuck it up behind the fuel filler behind the rear wheel well since it seems like it stays pretty clean and dry up there:

That is one clean setup. I would say custom cut 2 stage memory foam at this point. Some thinner soft on top and thicker more dense stuff on the bottom.

This may not be realistic but it looks like you would have enough room for maybe an air mattress. If you had onboard air, that might be more comfy than padding for the signicant other. Just tossing that idea out there. Whatever you choose I'm sure it will be comfy and look slick like the rest. So good luck and amazing work! I'm going to be harassing you for plans.

Edit: I think they are selling mattress toppers at Costco right now. Maybe that would be comfy and hopefully easy to pack away.

my beautiful wife is always good for a snuggle, but she is also 250F degrees at night. So, an air mattress will probably taco us together. That's only good for 50% of the night. We have a full size air mattress I am going to try this week, but I have a feeling a cut-to-size foam pad is going to be where it is at.

I was using an air mattress before but it loose air over night and should be 1 person per mattress for comfort.

Yeah, I think we are going to end up with a roll-up foam of some kind. Got so many things to look into this week...

shit! is it really that bad? I always drive w/ the rear window down and my son is in the third row! Please chime in. I can definitely smell the fumes when reversing but how during drives?

Sorry for the late reply. I imagine that at highway speeds it's ok to have a person the in 3rd row and the rear glass down. I did it about 4 years ago when my friends 12 year old step daughter sat back there. We drove from Bullhead City to Vegas and were pretty much doing 85-90 mph the whole time. As soon as we hit the strip traffic I put the window back up. It was around 110 that day

I ran into the same when I bought my 4Runner. Turns out it was the firmware on the remotes was older than what was supported by the version of Homelink in the 4R. Had to purchase an extra remote (one that I was sure had supported firmware) in order to successfully program Homelink.

Went with Warn VR12s. Had to move the AC line and that was it. It's a tight fit but it works perfectly.

Actually wanted a VR10s (which is a little smaller) but ordered the 12s on accident LOL. Happy it worked out.

I've actually been testing things out by installing a Kidde carbon monoxide monitor from our house. So far it hasn't chimed or chirped.

Painted and installed these RCI sliders. Researched different paints to use and came across Duplicolor Rockerguard. In their video on their website they actually sprayed this stuff on the sliders and rocker panels. The texture looks good! I actually used their wax and grease remover to prep and then the Self-Etching primer. During installation (24 hours later) the skid plate on the KDSS pump actually scratched a spot down to bare metal with minimal effort when I was sliding it between the frame rail and the skid... has me a little nervous how this will hold up long term or even annually. :suspicious:
Ended up with 3 cans of RockerGuard and 2 cans of primer to cover:

Primed:

2 coats of primer, 3 coats of Rockerguard

Installed!

Picked up a rear cargo liner/seatback cover from Amazon. Has zippers over the back of the rear seats in a 60/40 split so you can have a seat down and leave it connected. Seems pretty sturdy, says its waterproof and has a non-slip lining underneath. Hopefully will keep my dog from destroying the back for at least a little while :noidea:

Thinking about adding the blackout kit that sticks on top of the badges, I'm just weary of anything that sticks on the outside with adhesive...

Anyone have any experience with the badge "blackout kits" that stick on top of the badging with double sided tape? Thinking of adding it because it looks cool but I'm split. Not a huge of anything that goes on the outside with adhesive...

Haven't heard of anyone having a bad experience with them. Mine are holding up great! They use 3M industrial double sided adhesive, the stuff is impressively strong. Held on an emblem on an old ATV with the 3M tape and it went through war (power washers, mud, sand, snow, heat, cold, you name it) for 5-6 years!
