What did you do to/in your 5th Gen today?!

Oh yeah I'm aware. Just curious with his setup specifically because I've been spending so much time looking at tires on TE wheels that I can never tell when someone is running stock size or 285 anymore. Sometimes 265s look itty bitty, and sometimes they look just right. Sometimes 285s look monsterous and sometimes they look perfect.

I agree. I recently switched from 265 to 285 and a lot of the time I think to myself "hrmm, I know they are much bigger by comparison but they don't look that big" (insert whatever connotated joke here).

I'm running 275. No issue whatsoever. Would be nice to run 285 but I'm sure the mud flaps will have to go which isn't a big issue.

Sweet. Thanks for the response. I would totally dig the 275 but trying to swallow that price when comparing to the Falken Wildpeak is just...tough...

Sadly - my still shiny and new truck has had to undergo what I have to do every year to our other vehicles, annual rustproofing. Have been going to the same place for over 20yrs, recently sold a 2000 Jeep TJ which had very little rot anywhere underneath. They spray their typical formula into the body cavities (no drilling - use factory access points), and use a clear gell type coating for the undercarriage which eventually turns to a grease like substance.

They will start launching the brine trucks soon as temps fall to freezing, rock salt follows soon after, its a bad combo. Glad to see Edmonton is now joining Toronto with the same sillyness...

New salt brine on Edmonton's winter roads will rust your ride, warns expert - Edmonton - CBC News

Not particularly interesting pics I know, colleague at work wanted to see what the product looks like after its applied in order to decide if he wants to put his new Subaru through the same. A necessary evil in these parts. Be glad if you're in the South.

Well on a happier note - got to upgrade my signals to the Diode Dynamics switchbacks. Very pleased with how bright they are.

I think you guys worry way to much. Hit the whole frame with a quality paint, get inside as best you can. Get under there and undercoat it all PROPERLY once and be done with it.

Awesome. Really the hardest part of Forest Lake is the very first section where there are two boulder gardens. Once you're past that the rest is easy. If you pick your lines correctly you'll get away with minimal damage. I ended up bending my tail pipe on the way back down but not a big deal. I wouldn't take it without skids and sliders though.

Cool, I'll keep that in mind. I'm not at the point where I can scoff at dents and scrapes, my truck only has 650 miles on it. My old early bronco was heavily used and abused but not my new TRD yet!

Death Valley National Park

Just finished 4 day group run in Death Valley. Fish Canyon, Barker Ranch, Mengel Pass, Chloride City, Titus Canyon, State Line Mine, RaceTrack Playa, Lippincott Road, Saline Warm Springs, Steel Pass, Dedeckera Canyon , Eureka Dunes and out to Big Pine. Awesome! Shout out to 4Horsemen, who joined us for lunch and has a sweet rig! The picture with the rock pile is the grave site of Carl Mengle, a miner from back in the day who is buried at the top of the pass. The second picture is lunch on Lippincott Road.

Where are you bringing it to get sprayed in Toronto? Need to get mine done soon. Does the stuff your shop spray get absorbed into the rubber seals and cause them to swell like at Krown?

Thanks.

That has to be fun to work on.

yes grab handle! Sorry for the 2017 annotation confusion but no 5th GEN comes with an A-pillar grab handle:

I Purchased a passenger side grab handle and the the two covers over the bolt mounting holes.

I fabricated a custom bracket for the BOTTOM hole as the top hole i used the existing bolt hole that is hiding under the "SRS CURTAIN AIRBAG" pop out. the top hole has a bracket that is the same build quality as the passenger side brackets - as if toyota may have intended to install a grab handle but decided not to. the space is there for mounting a custom bracket for the bottom hole. no issue with space at all.

Top bolt:
1. I had to install a metal spacer because a gap is formed between the handle and the top bolt mount surface hiding under the "SRS CURTAIN AIRBAG" pop out plug.

2. longer bolt of course M6x1.0x35mm

Bottom Bolt:
1. 5/16 - 18 x 2 inch long bolt with washer.

2. custom bracket mounted to the A pillar structure.

3. drilled hole and modifed the A piller trim interior plastic "CLIP" that helps hold the A pillar trim in.

Finished:
outcome is awesome! very oem clean install - exactly what everyone seems to complain about online and all these "top 5 things i hate about my 4runner youtube videos"

Ill post more pics and a stand alone thread later. as the bracket i designed is very basic and works just fine for an unseen bracket.

this is sweet. i absolutely hate how it doesnt have a handle.

Thanks.

Was reading some of the other comments LoL. Yeah when this stuff absorbs general road grime, dirt etc. it turns to a nice grease. For pulling down struts or something you're gonna get your forearms covered in it, general brake work or something no big deal. I get my coveralls a little blackened when doing oil changes under my vehicles but like I said - a necessary evil in these parts. We see rust in vehicles around here where there should never be, 2-3 year old new. That brine stuff on a moist winter day, streams itself into vehicle points like fine mist, settles everywhere. In the spring your vehicle is full of crystallized dust under the hood, its just wonderful stuff. You gotta combat that with annual applications like this if you want your vehicle looking decent in 5-7 years.

I've never heard about rubber seals swelling thats bizarre. I don't go to Krown, my buddy owns a TintMaster RustCheck outlet near Dixie & Highway 401. He's had one guy doing the applications for 25 years, knows how to do things properly, remove body panels to spray into doors or rear fender pockets. Drilling is rare but only where recommended by manufacturer approval for this industry. None was required for mine. I'll PM you the owners name - call him directly when making your appointment and ask anything you want - great guy. You'll be happy with their work.
