What did you do to/in your 5th Gen today?!

With phillyd2 's help I was able to put on Smittybilt Winch using Budbuild Winch Plate. I would not have done it without his help. Awesome guy and thank you again Dave!

Just installed some Michelin Defender LTX's in stock size and I have to say they are a huge improvement over the Dunflops. Before I purchased them I was hearing and reading many negatives reviews (particular ride quality and noise) with the newer version. Honestly the negative feedback could not be further from the truth. It is down right incredible how smooth and quiet these tires are. I believe them to be slightly quieter than the MS2's and they are definitely a few pounds lighter which you can feel at the pedal (as per Michelin MS2=41 pds/Defender LTX=39 in a 265/70R17). I used them in the rain and they were nothing short of amazing. Michelin has got another winner here and has made it a better driving experience...a tough tire to beat for anyone who does a lot of driving without serious offroading.
I lost a brand new set of Michelin MS2 LTX on my '99 T4R SR5 when it got totaled. The MS2 LTX in the spare well, was mounted on a OEM Toyota aluminum rim and never touched the road. Five nearly brand new tires gone! They were really smooth on the freeway, no vibration at any speed. The whole vehicle just seem much smoother & finer with the LTXs.

I once hit a flooded water crossing on asphalt at 45 MPH. Fortunately I was in 4WD. I just let off the gas, remembered to NOT touch the brakes, and the tires & vehicle just plowed through about 3 feet of water effortlessly, like a snow plow pushing snow.

But, in 2WD, the MS2 LTXs on the rear still had a tendency to spin out on wet roads from a dead stop.

This week, I installed the LoPro bumper, Smittybilt winch, Extreme LED light bar, Factor 55 and Daystar lift spacers. [emoji1417][emoji1417]

Couldn't agree more. I had these on my '10 and loved them. Sadly, too expensive to swap them to the '18. The Dunlops aren't awful, but I'll watch for a DT sale and put LTXs on before next winter and sell the Dunlops used.

I had all intentions of going about 30k before I went to the Michelins. Until I drove in the first 3 winter storms. I am a very conservative driver meaning I usually drive the speed limit and if I go over its only few mph's. In the rain and snow I am very gentle on the gas but I found my traction control to go crazy with the Dunlop's. I had the same exact issue with my new Tacoma a few years back until I swapped tires. Truthfully I think the AT20 is a poor tire choice especially for the price I paid for my 4Runner and Tacoma. My wife though I was crazy for changing out tires with 10k for brand new ones but after a ride in a snow storm with kids and she didn't give me any issues. I got a very good deal on mine at a local Toyota dealership for 902 (OTD price with install and warranty) and they price matched another dealership with no issues. I am a big fan of DTD but Toyota offered a better price with less work on my end.

Finished the saga of getting one in my garage!

I've been hunting for a 4Runner for a few months now. Really wanted the Pro, but they are unobtainable in SoCal unless you're willing to pay a $10k+ markup. Nearly pulled the trigger on an ORP but at the last minute I found a Pro at a dealership in Utah.

Long story short, we made a deal but the truck was still sitting on their lot a week after I transferred funds and they couldn't give me a straight answer on delivery date. Got fed up and bought a plane ticket at 11:00 am, was at the dealer by 6:30 pm, drove straight through and was back in San Diego at 4:00 am. 4Runner did amazingly well on such a long drive.

I took the weekend to detail it, swap some of the bulbs to LED, Lamin-x to the fogs, and generally enjoy the truck. I'm coming from a long line of fast Euro sedans (last car was a D4 Audi S8), so this is a huge change for me. Down about 300hp and 4 seconds in the quarter mile from what I'm used to lol. But I'm absolutely loving it and looking forward to getting it out on some trails when I have the time.

Sweet Bike. What did that set you back?

Got it for $2100. It was a leftover 2017, so I grabbed it at a heavy discount. I’m typically an XC rider, so a 5” travel trail bike is a bit of a different animal for me. The 3” tires have traction all day long, too.

Replaced valve cover and spark plug sealing gaskets. I had 1 spark plug hole on each bank filling with oil.

I have always done 10K mile oil changes and didn't find a spec of sludge after 210K miles.

I just found a write up of the same job for the original 1GR-FE in the 4th gen. Interesting comparison of the differences in the head design for the cam bearings, exhaust side VVTi, and the difference in sludge. This engine had only 116K miles. Also, they put in an additional oil passage running through the valve cover spraying oil from the top, which probably is a lot of the difference between my spotless valve cover and the 4th with cooked on oil.

Drove up to Idaho to visit family and do some waterfowl hunting on the family ranch. Lost the keys to my 4runner in one of two 20 acre fields the first day and got skunked hunting as well. Wife caught a flight up to deliver me a set of keys the next day. Knocked down some birds and brought home a new addition to the family.

Just got part one of my order from Amazon yesterday -- a 31", 150W, single row LED light bar. This will go on the front of my Gobi rack. Still to come are a pair of 7" light bars that I plan to mount on the sides of the rack, for viewing objects off the sides of the trail.

I think the Dunlops are awful in cold wet conditions so they were off at 8K miles for Michelin LTX which are much better for wet traction and smooth now after the 4th balance/rotation on rims.
I don't know if there are batch differences on the Dunlops but at least mine were the worst wet traction tires I have seen since the bias ply knobbies on my 82 Jeep. I would not accept another new vehicle with them.
