What did you do to/in your 5th Gen today?!

This was fun... 27,000 mi oil change. Toyotacare ended at 25, but they changed oil at 19k.

Luckily, my buddy had a metal Oil Filter Housing he was going to use in his 3rd gen Tacoma.

P/N 15620-31060 (amazon link) If anyone is so inclined to switch.

The oil filter wrench I was using is THIS, so if you have this style and the plastic housing, be careful when unscrewing it. Just my experience.

It is not identical, thought it fits and there are threads about it on this forum. Is it a benefit to have a metal housing over the plastic that came on the truck? Thats up for debate. I just needed an OEM Oil Filter Housing on a Sunday at 2pm. I didnt have a lot of options really.

Housing itself is identical in every way, just metal. All you have to do is swap the center post that the filter slips onto over from the OEM one to the metal one. Take 10 seconds, they just pop out. I did this at my first oil change at 3000 miles, well worth it.

[MENTION=105450]CowboyTaco[/MENTION], Hey I have no griefs about them They look sharp and I in the area I am in there is nothing like it. My kids love to use them as steps and it gives a good standing platform for getting to the roof. I like that they out flat rather angle up. I think if they were angled up my foot will slip all the time and I would have to balance my ankle. I have an ankle injury so that would bother me. Plus the larger flat step for the rear passengers is an added bonus. Even if wasn't there it still would be nice but having it exceptionally nice. I am glad I got them powder coated flat black rather then the glossy finish it came. It works out great because I also got them coated with Ceramic Pro which has a better effect on the flat finish. All welds seems really nice and the overall construction is solid, sturdy, rigid. I am probably not going to be able to get a real extreme field test in my area.

I have the same pedals on mine, love those things, super grippy.

There is some gap. Can’t really tell unless you’re right up on it. But no issues with fogging, moisture behind the lens, or anything of that sort. They’re really bright and are great at night

I looked into going with the metal housing from the camry (I think). What stopped me was finding out that you have to change out the inner tube because it is shorter. I bought a case of OEM filters, so I want to keep it the same size.

Is the one for the Tacoma the same size as the 4Runner?

Also, I may end up ordering this since it looks as though you can select the right tube for the middle.

My current issue with the plastic one is that the drain plug is seized. When changing the oil, trying to remove that plug results in unscrewing the entire housing and dumping all the oil at once instead of draining through that plastic valve that comes with the new media. It's annoying and I'm now on my 3rd oil change using the same o-ring.

I've tried locking it in a vice and hitting it with the impact. That just spun the housing in the vice. I tried applying heat and doing the same, but that had the same result. I haven't gone to extremes because I don't want to damage the plastic....

Kustom 54 lights installed. First thoughts...Wow amazing low beam improvement. Nobody flashing at me but huge night and day difference in visibility and safety.
We do a bunch of long back country product testing treks and when it's not possible to run the rigid driving lights to the sides we had major concerns with OEM lights inability to properly light of the forest roads. Cant wait to really put these to the long backroad test soon.
