What did you do to/in your 5th Gen today?!

I installed Subaru tweeters, wow what a difference. 5 minute plug and play.

Also finally got rid of the forward lean with a 2 inch spacer lift. On my phone level the roof rack and bottom of the window is the same angle as the garage floor. I always hated the forward rake on both my 2006 and 2016. Lastly had the front wheel aligned. The spacers took 90 minutes in total to install and only one busted knuckle.

The clear plastic cover for the door lights. How did you get them off?

I used a butter knife and pried it gently from side. It will pop right out without much effort.

We had to pour out a bottle one time. My wife called before hand and they said it was fine. The agent at the terminal didn't think so. Rather than miss the plane, we just dumped it out. I'm still pissed about that one. So instead of feeding our baby before takeoff so that she would sleep, she cried the entire 2.5 hour flight. Made me feel bad for my daughter and want to punch a TSA agent in the face...doesn't matter that it was a woman (equal rights, right?)!

The terminal in Oahu tried to do this to us on a puddle jumper to Molokai. I refused to dump it out. They had their manager out and we came to an agreement to let it on the plane. I said I would drink some to prove that it wasn't an explosive agent and they let us through.
What really pisses them off is when they say to take off my belt and I say no. Jeez that riles them up lol. Then I show them it is a non-metallic (nylon and velcro). TSA pisses me off if you can tell lol.

Today I changed out the fluids in both diffs and the transfer case. at 45K miles the rear looked pretty murky, the front a bit less so and the transfer case actually looked surprisingly good. Switched to Amsoil synthetic fluid, first time trying it so we'll see how that goes.

While I was under there I went ahead and did the SCUBA mod and extended the breathers up into the jack holder area.

I also switched my diffs and TC out with Amsoil; I also use it throughout my 2001 Dodge Diesel. 325,000 miles and still going strong.

Do you have a parts list for the scuba mod?

You'd be better off with a 4.56 for a number of reasons. Mostly the pinion will be slightly larger and stronger than the pinion with a 4.88 and your cruising RPM at higher speeds will be slightly lower and closer to the OEM range. You might hurt your top end a little with a 4.88 and may run a little high in the RPM range with a 33" tire. Generally speaking when it comes to our rigs 4.56 for 33"s 4.88 for 35"s

Went to the dealer to get some parts for my 4th gen and came across this ARB accessory model. SR5 w Bumper and lights, Tent, Awning, Black Rhino wheels and what looks like Predator Pro steps. Parts guy said ARB isn't involved with the truck, the dealer decided to build a floor model to advertise the add on options. Pretty cool to see it in the show room though.

I'm going with 4.88 because I do almost no highway driving and I have a lot of weight on the vehicle. Also, the 33s are for now but probably will step up again.

I guess it's a base model SR5. Hell they want $3,600 for the bumper installed w lights. Parts guy said off the top of his head $54K for the rig and they've had offers, but they don't want to build another one real soon. Dealer installed ARB accessories? Way too pricey for me....

yeah, the original filter had an “up” arrow but the replacement filter’s arrow indicates the path of airflow, which is the other direction.


it doesn’t matter with standard filters, but it often does with “premium” HEPA and charcoal filters.

I ended up flipping the filter around, thanks for your input

Installed Xenon Depot Xtreme LEDs in the low beams. Anybody else just put the cables in the housing instead of drilling a hole? Is it truly necessary? Input is welcome.

Just installed today. I drilled the hole in the dust cap. It didn't seem right to have all that cable plus the driver box jammed in there. I'm worried already about heat dissipation, so I wanted less in contact with hot parts, especially cable.

Also, I noticed my stock DRLs stopped working once I hooked these up. Same for you? I imagine I need to replace the 9005 bulbs with the latest LED kit for those. High beams work fine, though.

Bittersweet as I've never loved a vehicle as much as my 4Runner, but I decided I'm just not a truck guy and want to get back into my Mustang roots. Order should go in tonight for a 2019 Mustang GT Performance Package Level 2 in Velocity Blue.

The chances of me acquiring another 4R is super high, but I just can't afford having both it and a fun car right now, so I'm going to settle for a fun car for a while.

Perhaps by the time my wife's lease is up in the next two years, Toyota will have released the new gen 4Runner. Otherwise, we'll probably continue being a Toyota family as the 4Runner 100% sold me on the brand, resale and reliability wise.

Anyway, kind of a sad day, but I'm getting the exact vehicle I want for the near term. But I will be back at some point!
