Mounted tie down brackets on Rago rack

Today I mounted the tie down brackets I had made for my Rago roof cross bars.

I want to be able to easily tie down over sized loads like a 4x8 sheet of plywood and also protect my XM antenna from those loads. I designed these tie down brackets and antenna guard and had a local steel fabrication shop build them for me. And by design I mean I mocked up some cardboard (super low tech). I had another local shop powder coat them to match the rails that I had them coat last summer.

Now I just need to get the details from Rago on where I can find the bolt receivers they use so I can install the antenna guard. I'm not certain if I'll leave the guard on all the time, I'll have to see how it looks from all angles once installed.

This week I paid off my 4Runner...waiting for that crisp title to come in my hands now.

What's next?...lift (Dobinson's or Bilstein 5100) and headlight/foglight upgrades and plastidip the silver when it's warm again.

I've never kept a car long enough to pay it off to receive the title. Then again I was never driving a 4Runner before either.

Finally pieced together my suspension. Just need to clear plans on a weekend for the install!

Did a paint correction and polish on my 2015... finished it with 3 layers of ceramic coatin... so it sits curing and I hope it will be worth it for this weekend.

While I couldn’t drive, I cruised the forums and checked out dream builds for my next project.

Yeah both sway bars removed but planning on reinstalling the front sway bar with some disconnects for better stability.

Maiden Voyage

Took my 2019 TRD ORP on her maiden voyage this morning. I picked her up Thursday night and think I'm in love. Less than 100 miles on the odometer and she's already been in 4WD and completed a water crossing.

2014 4Runner SR5

Center console safe.(I live in St. Louis City, so its kind of a must)
Upgraded brakes and rotors to a powerstop system.(Very pleased with the breaking performance now)
Upgraded all interior lighting to LED.(Almost too bright now)
Installed the Pedal Commander.(WOW!!!! No more pedal lag and its super fast)
HID Headlight upgrade.( Far superior to the OEM headlights)
OEM Nav Head unit upgrade in route to my house.

Working on these bad boys is super easy even for a weekend warrior mechanic. Youtube is your friend.

I work nights, so I stopped off at a nearby lake the other morning to freeze to death in order to catch a beautiful sunrise. Worth it




Then I installed the $150 version of the TRD Pro grill. Have to say, the quality is perfect, and the price was much easier to swallow!

My first and last 4runner

I have a 2019 TRD Off Road Premium, traded my Ram in for it a few weeks ago and having second thoughts about this vehicle. Yes, they ride great, off road capable as all get out, and the resale/reliability ratings are amazing. Plus fuel economy isn't bad either. I have always been a Jeep/Mopar fan. Very easy to modify without having to fabricate or break the bank on suspension components. I purchased and had installed a 4 inch lift from Tuff Country suspensions. That lift has been taken off the rig after a week of enduring a horrible ride and noisy front end. I have always been a fan of Rough Country Suspension upgrades as they are priced well and they have performed well for me on my Rams and Jeep vehicles. As I stated previously all but the Tuff country UCAs have been removed. I have come to the conclusion that the Tuff Country UCAs are not that great. I have greased the crap out of them and they still creak. So I will be putting the OEM UCAs back on. I have looked at other suspension lifts online and the prices are retarded. I did install the Rough Country and it rides so much better other than the Tuff Country junk UCAs. Then installing bigger tires, fml. 285/70R17 rubbing!!!

Don't give up just yet. You and I and tons others have been in the same spot you're in now. I've had 5 lifted diesel Dodge's, lifted Jeeps and Rovers. The 4Runner is the one I've yet to get bored with. So much so I traded my 2015 in due to being damaged in a trailer towing incident, for a 2018. I've built it again identical to the '15.
That said, some things don't cross over well. I loved Rough Country components on other vehicles, wouldn't even consider them for a 4Runner. Do more research on what works best on these 4Runners and you might be surprised. I know I was. I wouldn't have given a 4Runner a first look if I hadn't of been kind if forced into renting one almost 4 years ago. I'd likely be on my 6th Dodge diesel by now. Still have a Jeep, but I'm no where close to getting rid of 4Runner yet. I may actually keep this one for a very long time.

I put Christmas lights on my 4Runner almost two weeks ago. Now it's almost Christmas and I still haven't had a chance
to use them after dark, due to various circumstances.
