What did you do to/in your 5th Gen today?!

Installed my TMT 4x4 full length roof rack. After all the stuff I read about the Ecotechne racks being pieces of crap I was terrified of pulling the trigger on another Venezuelan company, but really happy so far. No missing hardware, laser cuts are really clean, powdercoat looks great, $450 cheaper than a Prinsu and it came in 3 weeks.

FTS Snorkel with Line-X

FTS Snorkel with Line-X. Haven't seen any1 do that although many have painted their snorkels before. As I was doing my homework, I could not find anyone who has ever applied Line-X, so I was a little hesitant to do it at first. As I spoke to the guys in the ship, I was told that Line-X adheres well to Fiberglas and fiberglass reinforced plastic and won't melt it. So I took a chance and I love the end result. Now it's not as thin and flimsy and it is scratch resistant if not proofed.

After shipping, the Prinsu full length no drill came out to $1,140.54 for me. TMT has a T4r.org coupon that gives you 20% off. For the rack alone with 6 load bars and no extra attachments, the total comes out to $754 shipped. If you really need the extra 3 bars, then add $80. Still $300 cheaper. I'm not trying to discredit or push anyone away from Prinsu, just stating why I went with this one over them.

Eh the EcoTechne racks aren't bad, but the powdercoat sucks. I ordered mine bare and had the powdercoat done here.

Have to say the Ecotechnes do look awesome. Have you had any issues mounting accessories to it?

You attach crossbars to the red things and it functions as a load carrier for ice chests, jerry cans, etc. or can use them as tie down points.

What did I do to/in my 5th Gen today?

Nothing!!! My wife bought a 2018 Limited in November and I've never seen it in the flesh. My job took me to Europe in September '18 and I haven't been home since. I'm probably going to miss the new car smell entirely; by the time I get home in March the car will have her hair ties and Starbucks receipts all over it.

I do have a few questions for you knowledgeable folks though since this is my first 4R (my first Toyota too):

Is the spare full-size? (I assume it is, that's what Toyota's website says)
Do you put the spare into your tire rotation as a 5th wheel? Or does it have a different rim than the other four wheels, and it's a strict spare?
(I've owned Wranglers in the past and they had full spares which I rotated in as part of a five-wheel-rotation pattern)

Are there any issues I need to be aware of when taking the 4R to the dealer for routine maintenance? I ask because I just finished reading a thread on the Wrangler forums about how none of the Jeep dealerships seem to be aware that the 2018 and 2019 JL Wranglers take 5 quarts of oil vs. the normal 6 quarts that the JKs took (despite both having 3.6L Pentastar V6s). JL owners across the country are having their Jeeps overfilled.

Since she got a Limited the spare will be a full size 20" alloy with TPMS. In the manual it's actually recommended to put the spare in the rotation for the Limited models.

Nice. I think that will be my next project, a way to attach my gas can on the rack. So far I've mostly just strapped long/bulky items up there. I drilled extra holes in all the crossbars to make attaching stuff easier.

Ski rack is the first (semi) permanent addition. T-slot bars ended up being the easiest and most adaptable way to mount them, haha.

If those bulbs are worth their salt they will be able to fit just fine inside the dust caps with no modification.

If they suck, not only will you need to drill holes to run the driver outside the housing, but you'll throw light and glare all over the road. I don't have experience with that brand but they look a little, uh, eBay.

I purchased from Amazon. Several members of the forum have them and raved about them. Guess I will find out.

Whatever you do don't run your truck without those dust covers back on. You'll have so much condensation inside your light housing it'll drive you nuts. This is the reason I would never run HID or lights that require drilling holes through the dust cover. Moisture always finds a way in. YMMV.

Been there, done that in my Gen 4! Luckily some Forest Service guys came along. No cell phones and not dressed for it at all. Ain't doin' that again. HAH!
