What did you do to/in your 5th Gen today?!

Ordered #5 285/70/r17 KO2s to fit the Metallic graphite SCS F5s sitting in the garage.

I got a call from the dealer that he finally found a ORP in Magnetic Grey with Sunroof delete and no KDSS (rare as hens teeth here in Los Angeles) had to put down a deposit to get them to ship from AZ.

Still waiting for a good sale on an ICON lift but hoping to pull that trigger soon too.

Found a shop down here called Demello’s that will do a good looking BMC so those 285s won’t rub.

Also started researching t-slot for a rear drawer build which I’ll start designing when I finally get the truck.

Picture time for things completed this week, well most. Not picture is cold air intake, TRD oil cap, odyssey battery with Agency 6 battery clamp.

Victory 4x4 blitz bumper with warn VR8-S winch and 20” light bar. Painted the shackles dark blue to match better. Also installed TRD skid plate with letters painted dark blue.

Pulled off and painted rear silver valance black and added recovery hitch w/shackle.

My dad and I then built a custom rear storage compartment that is level with the back seats folded flat. Only has about 4” of space (bottom to top)but works for straps, tools and recovery gear to keep it out of the way. I wanted it level so I could sleep on it if needed.

Also got the TRD black rims installed, kept the stock tires for now.

I made another trip to the desert Wednesday night. Winds were fierce during the night, with gusts to 55 mph! On Thursday it was a little better but still too windy to fly my drone or do some of the other things I had planned. However, I still had a great time, and saw some amazing things. Best of all, I saw and photographed some interesting birds, including a hummingbird with two young in the nest.

Just before I left, I spotted the nest of a Red Tail Hawk, and got this photo of a chick in the nest:

Loaded up the 4Runner and headed from Phoenix to Cali for a quick surf trip. Surfline was predicting a solid swell and glassy conditions so we loaded up the dogs and went to San Onofre. It was the first time I loaded up the FrontRunner rack. I was impressed with how much gear I could fit up top and how nothing came loose or shifted with 6+ hours driving at 85+ in high wind conditions.

(For those who think 85mph is too fast, the speed limit on route 10 is 75mph through the desert. Doing 85 is running with the pack. You aren’t passing anything except 18 wheelers and only on the big hills. )

I want to add that the Trasheroo is one of the best bang for the buck investments I have made. It is very well made and holds up-to 50 pounds of gear. I was able to fit the following inside it:

4 Dog bowls
5 days worth of dry kibble (3 cups per dog per day X 2 dogs x 5 days = 30 cups)
Assorted dog training treats
Tennis balls and Chuck-it
4 beach towels
2 large bamboo mats
3 liters of water for the k9s
Dog leashes
Surfboard leashes
Surfboard wax
Dog poop bags

Being able to access that stuff from ground level was priceless. Especially with multiple feeding and watering sessions for the dogs during the long drive. Being able to remove the Trasheroo and haul it down the beach in one trip when we arrived was beyond priceless.

So we pulled out the carpet and hard foam under padding. Laid the carpet back down as the bottom lining for the storage box. Built a custom wood frame, out of 3/8” poplar, cut to fit over the metal hump and around seat brackets. Made sure it all fit snug. The painted it all black, put carpet on the top pieces/lids, which is 1/2” MDF with u channel aluminum to protect the front edge, and put it all together. The hinge is just a piano hinge and we left a small gap between the back piece and lids so that it remained smooth and flat on the top and hinge was hidden. The lids over hang about 1/2”-3/4” by the rear hatch to lift them open.

The Lid stays we tried wouldn’t work, gonna create custom hold open with just a piece of wood you can flip up to keep lid open.

About to swap out my sliding cargo tray with RDTRD for his flat floor. Was easy enough removing the cargo tray and all its parts. Marked everything so I know where it needs to go when we install it in his.

Not all today but today the cherry was placed on top. Over the last week I’ve installed Bilstein 5100’s all the way around (set at 1.75” in the front), 1.5” rear spacers, front bumper chop, 1.25” wheel spacers and 285 KO2’s (mounted and balanced today)

Installed nytosc’s camping mod that gives window control, lock/unlock and opens the door

I installed Morimoto 2 stroke 2.0 H11 and 9005 with the anti flicker harness and the Morimoto XB LED fog lights on my 2019 TRD ORP.

The hardest part about the bulbs was trying to put it in. My 4runner isnt even lifted and I'm average in height, 5'11", but it's hard to gather strength while bent over trying to ram this bulb in at an awkward angle. The gasket on it is thicker than the original so I'm guessing that's why. The driver side was the worst of the two thanks to the battery. After what seemed like an hour of making sweet loving gestures to the front end with my lower half it was complete with the H11 harness tucked inside the housing and the 9005 with the flicker thingy strapped to some wires.

The fog lights were the most time consuming because I went through the wheel well. It was fine for the driver side but the passenger side had a rubber housing of sorts that had a tab on each side. It was super hard to put a screwdriver in to pry the tabs out but taking the screw from the bottom of the wheel-well splash guard helps get a tiny little more access to it.
Just waiting for night to fall social can test these lights out. I think I have it leveled and dialed in where they should be but gotta wait for nightfall to really know.
