What did you do to/in your 5th Gen today?!

That would be by Utica Reservoir in the Eastern Sierra Nevadas in California.
Utica, Union and Spicer to name a few. It is still on the Western side of the Sierras close to the summit. Lived up that way in the 90’s. Camped, fished and 4Wheeled that area a few times. Actually, had my spare stolen the night before on my Toyota 4wd, and just before leaving that day, decided to throw a can of seal’n’air in the back. Finished tubing late in the evening at Utica and had a flat. Filled it up with that stuff and amazingly it worked and got me all the way home to Lodi. Down the 4 late on a Sunday night there were no services back then. About 50 miles home. Nice area. Nice black Pro. I have one myself.

Wow I know how crazy that road is doing the day with great tires. I can't imagine at night on a sealed tire like that but that's pretty awesome they don't make stuff like they used to now. And yeah it's an absolute beautiful area. I'v been up to Spicer reservoir before but never over by Utica absolutely breathtaking.

First real trip in the books, 380+ miles from Denver into Wyoming & back. I chose to use I-25 for the first trip instead of I-70 just because if anything went wrong I didn't want to have to deal with mountain traffic & steep inclines.

I was able to maintain 70-80mph, dropping down to 3rd on the up-hill sections. 5th was pretty much useless so I stayed in 4 most of the way. Definitely don't rely on the "intelligent" transmission, pop that sucker into "Sport" mode and take a more active part in the drive if you want better performance. All in all we got about 11-12 mpg, which is fine for the fat trailer we had to have.

The trailer itself was designed well, the fresh tank is up front and the gray/black are fairly evenly placed in the middle so the weight distribution didn't change too much from start to finish. It's surprisingly well insulated from the sun and we weren't crying for A/C during the day like we thought we would be. That said, a generator will be the next purchase lol

Overall: The 4Runner probably isn't the best tow-vehicle, but it doesn't suck either. I'm pleasantly surprised that it gets the job done, just not as well as a pickup would. From what I read on here and saw in videos, I thought I'd be rushing out to buy a new pickup and trading the 4Runner just to use the trailer, but I actually think I'm good for a year or two.

In my opinion, the 4Runner's towing limitation is NOT the suspension or brakes, it's the lack of power and gears. Even without a WDH or swaybar (I'm cheap and like to live on the wild-side), it didn't feel squirrely or loose in the hi-wind areas of WY, which is what really had me worried. I just wanted a bit more "oomf" to get around.

And this was a new experience, the long-lines at dump-stations.

I'm going to get a robe & fur hat with a cigar & just stand there saying "shitter's full" next time.

How much does your trailer weigh? (Dry)

Spod...

Finally got off my ass and installed the universal 6-swirch SPOD system that's been on a shelf in my garage for 14 months...

Changed t-case & front diff fluid today. Just gotta grease UCA's & prop shaft next wknd & we'll be ready for our Colorado trip in a few wks.

Drove up to Kansas City, MO for the weekend. 1st "long" road trip in the T4R - 4 hours 20 min / 263 miles each way.

Had an Eibach Pro Truck lift installed 2 days before the trip. Firmed up the ride through the curves and nose dive on braking is gone. Looks real good too.

Drove Bennet Pass Road through Lookout Mountain on Mt. Hood as a quick evening trip.
Trail is rated easy-moderate but definitely had some spots that make you pucker.

Decided to chop my front bumper. Some free clearance and I'll be cutting it up anyways whenever I move to a front bumper. Used a jigsaw with a fine tooth blade. Worked perfectly. Only had to make one cut and quick touch with some sandpaper.

Over the weekend. First long trip, 1060 mi down and back, from Central OR. to the Bay Area for the drag races at Sonoma Raceway. Was a little concerned about the 102 temp going through Redding CA. what with the intercooler radiator in front of the stock radiator. No problem ... I think Toyota puts a pin in the temp gauge, as they never go above just before half way. LOL! 20.5 MPG down to Redding and 19.6 from Weed back up to Terrebonne.

Installed the remote start from accessoride. Very easy to install. Had to get ahold of the customer service with some troubleshooting to get it going. Excellent customer service. Wintertime will so much better now!!

I gave the old girl a new chapeau and some outdoorsy bling.

Pictured:
  • Rhino Rack Pioneer Platform 76x49"
  • ARB Touring 1250mm x 2100mm awning
  • Hi-Lift 60" farm jack (carryover, but on snazzy new Rhino Rack mounts)
  • Maxsa Escaper Buddy (2) + shovel

I'm sure that someone is going to as 'yeah cool Arishtat, but does she fit in the garage now?'. The answer is yes as long as I dismount the jack and also the traction board mounts. That takes me a whole five minutes so I'm good with that.

Plans are in the works to buy or build a mount for that ARB awning to allow it to lay down for transport and hinge up for deployment because right now I cannot fully open the tailgate with the awning deployed (vertically, not horizontally).

Installed my Cornfed 1" spacer lift yesterday. Took about 3.5 hours from wheels up to wheels down.

Let me tell you, the *****ing about working with the KDSS sway bar upon re-installation is justified. That thing took longer to deal with than anything else. Huge pain in the ass to deal with without a helper, but I got it figured out.

This should hold me over into next year when I decide whether or not to go full bore and get some Kings. Definitely love this ride height though.

What size tires? 1" front and 1" rear or just 1" up front and stock rear? Looks great!

Thanks! OEM sized Falken Wildpeaks SL rated and only 1" lift up front. Nothing in rear.

That level of lift + 1.25" wheel spacers on the Trail/TRDOR wheels is the look the thing should have came with from the factory! Feel like it's kind of hard to beat the look of the OEM wheels after being powdercoated and track width widened.
