Treated myself to some X-Bull Recovery Boards on an Amazon special! $150 out the door for a set of 4.

They aren't Maxtrax quality, but for 1/4 of the price, they are going to be great. I couldn't bring myself to pay $600 for a set of 4 Maxtrax. These will be used pretty lightly, so I am sure they will work well. Nice to have a little peace of mind given that I don't have a winch.

I have those and they are great! I too couldn't justify the amount of Maxtrax and I have used these a couple times on getting people unstuck and they work and hold up. Its been used on an old F150 stuck in snow as well as a subaru outback stuck in snow.

One downside is that the holes they have dont match up to any mounts out there (that I've found) so its definitely a DIY project to make a mount. I still have them on my roof but with 2 HD bungee cords holding them on.

I have the XBulls as well. Quality is awesome, I watched a few YouTube videos showing the differences and honestly the Maxxtraxx wasn't worth the price difference for me. Mine live on the roof rack for over a year now and have not faded at all or anything, used a few times wheeling and also helping someone out of stuck snow. No problems!

I plan on making some custom mounts for my Prinsu, so that will be perfect!

This is the video that I watched. Basically did everything the Maxtrax does, just not as good for bridging (which I wont be needing) and stacking (kinda sucks, but 2 stacks of 2 is not a big deal).

Damn and both of those are rare for me what are the odds?

I actually ended up going with with dobinsons. That way when I go steel I can simply swap the coils out and preserve factory rake. Hear they ride well. With any luck I'll throw it on this weekend.

Waiting for some Jeep douche to say “that’s why you need a real off-road capable vehicle so stuff like this doesn’t happen.” Like they said about the 5th gen that rolled at Cleghorn a couple of months back.

Multiple times that day I had people in Jeeps taking video's of my 4Runner going down some pretty sketchy trails expecting me to roll and I know they were shocked when I made it through with ease.......

First time towing our new travel trailer today. Even at only 3000lbs empty, we 100% need a pickup truck. The 4Runner can handle it but it is not at all confidence-inspiring. It feels like it generally brakes fine with the wireless brake controller, but acceleration and changing road conditions: you can feel every little ounce of that thing back there, even with the weight distribution hitch.

Not sure what we'll do in the next few months but getting rid of the 4Runner may be a forced decision.

I would not be considering this if we didn't have this trailer though. However, I'm also a bells-and-whistles lover so to say having an F-150 with all the tech doesn't tickle my insides would be a flat-out lie.

I want to love the Tundras but gahdamn they are so far behind the competition. They're getting closer with the 2020's but the drivetrain is kind of lacking, just like the 4Runner.

oh yea F that noise dude. Chevy has the duramax coming soon for the half tons, 30mpg highway? yes please. rated for like 9k or so, light half ton but perfect for DD.

I'm biased for the Ford tho. Get a 6.7. you'll be able to roast the tires while towing that travel trailer lol.

 

[2016 4Runner SR5]

Gave the inside of the frame a fluid film treatment. Also did the inside of the front lower control arms and radiator core support. Used 3 cans for that. Next will be inside the rockers and inside the floor supports on the body. I expect the whole job will take 5-6 cans to do a thorough job. Outside of the frame and everything else under there is cleaned and painted 2-3 times a year so no fluid film will be used on any exterior surface.
