What did you do to/in your 5th Gen today?!

I rented a Uhaul flatbed trailer to take my riding mower to the shop for repair. Pulled it with the 4Runner. It was not confidence inspiring drive. Can't imagine trying to pull a travel trailer with the 4Runner.

oh yea F that noise dude. Chevy has the duramax coming soon for the half tons, 30mpg highway? yes please. rated for like 9k or so, light half ton but perfect for DD.

I'm biased for the Ford tho. Get a 6.7. you'll be able to roast the tires while towing that travel trailer lol.

Best of luck, that is a wise choice. You are certainly not the first to discover this even when others are blasted for expressing the same opinion beforehand. You will get many years of great memories out of the TT, enjoy!

So as a follow-up, I drove the trailer about 350 miles or so round trip between Seattle and Astoria, OR. Flat, straight highways, it does fine, as you can imagine. It'll sit around 2500 RPM so it absolutely chugs gasoline but it's pretty uneventful towing in that situation.

Going up gentle-sloped hills it generally does fine. If you're willing to sacrifice some RPMs/MPGs, you can keep it above 40/45 mph without much heartache. However, I can't imagine what it would be like over a real mountain pass. It would probably be going about the speed of a loaded Vanagon Westfalia.

Curves are where it really feels the least confidence-inspiring. Especially bumpy downhills where it feels like the trailer might lift the ass-end of the 4Runner off the road and then push the rear end around. I doubt that would actually happen with the trailer brakes and what not, but the short wheel base really makes it feel pretty sketchy.

Keep in mind, this is all with a proper weight distribution/anti-sway hitch setup. I'm sure airbags would help a bit, but only for the bouncy feeling. Obviously that wouldn't help with the lack of power and lack of gears.

Just knowing that a vehicle exists that would barely even notice the trailer back there makes me want to give it a shot over the 4Runner. Which sucks because I generally love the 4Runner in every other respect.

But if we're ever planning to do any trips with this thing over 150/200 miles from home, there's just no way it would make sense, especially when we inevitably encounter a real mountain pass.

Just got to convince the wife that a more expensive vehicle makes sense in the long term. Especially sucky since Ford is running 0% APR for 72 months on F-150s until the end of September...:wow:

Took my truck out for his first true off-roading day. Cool little place called Creekside Off-Road Ranch. Got stuck in some extremely thick mud, not even the boards could grab the tires, ended up getting pulled out by a friend.

Just had to get these after I saw a buddy have them on a merc. Sub 20 bucks for all 4! Looks great on concrete, this is a beat up driveway, they're laser clean lines. Toyota welcome lights!

I got my Prinsu Rack installed today. It looks SO MUCH BETTER than the stock '19 TRD rack in my opinion! (FYI the yellow tape is only there to hold the weather strip in place until the glue dried.)
Gonna start looking for a ladder now.

Love this colors but need 3rd row seats!! The color match rockers are killer!

The Toyota logo will eventually melt off starting on the driver’s door. I wish they had something more durable, even if I have to pay more.

Is that the Reward Mine?

Yes. As far as I know there are only a few adits in California large enough to drive into (Bonanza King mine in Mojave National Preserve comes to mind). Though BK is nothing compared to this. I didn't set my odometer but there's at least a half-mile of tunnels large enough to drive through here. Great experience. I have a quick video about our trip, though not nearly as comprehensive as your videos Ray. Love your channel!

Looks like Coyote Flat? I'd love to make it up there before the snow comes in hard again. Beautiful area.

You got it! First time up and I'm already trying to plan another trip up before Nov. Sucks that the long winters have made this area only accessible for a few months out of the year, but I guess that's also what makes this place so special.

Make sure you stay on the trail though! Not supposed to drive out on the meadow, or really anywhere off trail. Have fun on your next trip!

Got some 3m wrap from the guy who did my tint. 20% tinted front, covered my mirror turn signals, covered the headlight amber, covered the silver roof rails, plasti dipped the wheels, and removed and sold the OEM side steps. Want to do a light tint on the rear lights, ir black out everything besides the reverse and back up boxes.

Beat me up physically and financially but, lift, spacers, 285 AT3W 10 PLY, and an alignment.

Need a mild BMC. But, I'm about ready for the desert camping season.

What did you use, I need to deep clean my Subaru, and upkeep the Toyota

First I used a general cleaning spray with paper towles to get the grime off then used Mothers VLR with rags (Vinyl, Leather, rubber) and it cleaned and looks great without the lint from paper towels.
Also a toothbrush to get those dirty or hard to reach places. A wire brush if you want the metal parts to shine.
You can vaccum up pine needles or like me I just took them out by hand.
Wish I took a pic with my new battery.
