What did you do to/in your 5th Gen today?!

Added the Morimoto XB headlights last night. In my opinion this is what the OEM headlight should have looked like.

Looks like I won't be swapping over to a Tacoma after all.

I have no idea if it's like this nationwide, but trade-in on 4Runner's is not very good right now in the PNW.

Under $32k on the top end for a 2019 TRDOR Premium with KDSS and 6500 miles. That's basically a 20% value drop in less than a year, and not even based on original MSRP but based on my original purchase price using Costco Auto Program. Pretty sure I could have convinced a dealership last year to give me $35k for a similar 2018.

KBB also shows an equally equipped 2018 is worth $2000 more than a 2019. Don't know what's going on but the dealers ain't playing ball outside of KBB.

Just out of curiosity, I checked with Carvana and Vroom. Carvana offered just above $30k including a nearly $2000 hit "due to region". Vroom had the best offer at $33k but that's still not enough to make me financially comfortable with the swap.

Oh well. I still love the 4Runner, the Tacoma would just be a bit better in regards to towing and keeping my interior from getting messy from dirty gear.

It must be the location. I'm in Indiana. I was t-boned at 550 miles in August in my 2019 SR5 Premium. I got it fixed and was getting trade in and purchase offers for a diminished value claim from Carvana and Carmax and was still getting about $32-$34K offers with the accident on Carfax. That was in October when I got those offers.

Quite honestly, your biggest mistake is ever going to the dealer to begin with. In general, dealer mechanics are clueless and the dealer is always way over priced. Find a good local shop and go there or do the work yourself. Is your timing cover gasket leaking? I assume it is otherwise they would not have said to change it but who knows. As for injector cleaner, bottle of Lucas in the tank at evert 5K mile oil change and IMO you're good to go. Top end cleaner? I would skip that if I was you. If you're at all mechanical, change the transfer case oil, gear oil, engine oil, filters, maybe plugs on your own. It's all really very easy to do and you will save a boat load of money. BTW, now would be a very good time to service the transmission also.

True. I really only use them for every 10k maintenance. Have gone with others for tire rotation and other items or done myself. Timing cover gasket apparently does have a leak. I may have another shop check it out. Not sure how big an issue that is or if I could change it. I consider myself fairly capable with most DIY type items. Have never changed the fluids in my 4R myself, but I’m sure there are write ups on here. Would kinda like to do it on my own if it’s not too rough. Thanks for your feedback.

After looking for quite a while, i stumbled on a 2013 Trail roof rack on Craigslist locally. Ive seen a few on here but shipping made it more expensive than it needed to be. Another plus, the sale posted, they were selling the roof rack for $50. I jumped all over it and replaced my SR5 roof rack.

Yesterday I had a set of Falken A/T3W tires put on. I think they'll be much better than the OEM Dunlops that came on the 2020 TRD ORP. Put in some Husky floor liners and have an Accessorides remote start system on the way. New car additions = $$. Oh well, better and safer.

I never noticed the difference in racks. Makes me glad I have an old 2013 Trail with a lot of black accents and no shiny stuff or painted trim. Saved me a lot of Plasti dip time.

After puncturing the sidewall on one of my C Load 285 KO2s, I decided to go bigger and beefier. Picked up a set of 295 STT Pros from Discount Tire for Cyber Monday and got em mounted up.

Ok, I read that thread. But how is that easier than just running an extension cord through the hatch?

Sent from my Pixel using Tapatalk

The extension cord through the hatch leaks in snow/rain! I had to keep moving and arranging it to try and stop the leak, but was never able to completely eliminate it. Also the flat wire extension cords aren't usually grounded, something I would insist on since it's exposed to weather.

yeah. i figured for the price i paid, it was a no brainer. I was going to bring my original rack and have it sprayed with bed liner. but this was a better option.

Welcome to the bath you take when buying a brand new vehicle. It's especially bad if you try to trade in an almost-new vehicle.

The flip side to that is that those of us who buy 2-year-old vehicles (with about 20k miles on them) get a fantastic deal! It still leaves plenty on the clock for warranty, the vehicle is still basically brand new in looks and condition, and we can get an $38k (when new) 4Runner for under $30k.

Although you're not wrong, something within the market, at least locally, has certainly changed.

A little over one year ago, I sold my 2016 4Runner Trail (non-premium) with 25,000 miles to Carvana for nearly $32,000.

They offered barely over $30k for my 2019 TRDOR Premium with 6000 miles. And that's about what the other offers are sitting at. Like you said, a "basically brand new" vehicle is worth less today than a three year old, less equipped but same vehicle was worth one year ago.

It may be temporary, but it's definitely a market change, and ain't nobody selling sub 30k mile, sub four year old Trail/TRDOR 4Runners for under $30,000 anywhere in this country.

It may seem like I'm complaining since this is the internet and that's what everyone assumes, but I'm merely pointing out an observation.

What I experienced in August was that the year or two old T4R's were only a couple grand (if that) less than the brand new 2019 SR5 Premium I bought. They were just starting to drop the prices to unload inventory when I bought it.

The used ones I've seen since buying mine at my local dealer with low miles still in warranty are well north of 30K. The only thing less than 30K is '17 or '18 that are well past warranty.

Don't think I saw anybody comment on this picture. I love this! Can you share your tire set up? These look so good! Thanks.

TRD Pro wheels
Spidertrax 1.25" spacers
Cooper Discoverer AT3 XLT 285/70R17

I like the stance this combo of wheel/spacer/tire size gives. And the Coopers have been amazing so far. 90% of my driving is on pavement and, living in the PNW, half of that is wet pavement, so I needed a tire that handled that well. They are confidence inspiring in the rain, particularly compared to the KO2s they replaced, which were downright terrifying.
