What did you do to/in your 5th Gen today?!

So I was trying to see if I could replace the weird chrome grill inserts Toyota decided to put in non pro 2020’s. I saw somewhere that black ones existed so I was trying to find the part # but found this on Toyota parts direct..... why would they be discontinued? Shows that way for all models with that grill type including nightshade

Initially I tried the Sawzall but my blade was not long enough and the tool was just too bulky.

I used my air cut off wheel for most of it, but still couldn't fit the tool to get to the very top of the body mount.

Then I remembered I had a big electric Makita Paddle Switch Grinder. This thing was a beast and I probably could have done the whole thing with this tool. I love this thing.

I did not take off my wheels; I just popped off the small fender/rocker trim piece that took about 5 seconds and turned my wheels full lock out of the way.

I cut in pie shapes so I could make a clean straight cut at the top of the body mount, otherwise the wheel wont fit to the top.

I'm pretty handy and comfortable with grinders, so it was not scary at all. I used a Sharpie to give me some rough guidelines and was careful not to damage the body mount or cut into the floor.

It'll look so much better once I smooth up the cuts a little more and weld on my custom plates. It'll look like it came that way.

Today I added XD 9005 LED’s with the drivers for my DRL / Hi Beams, what a difference!! Nice and bright white and no flicker at all despite hearing what some have said.

Also added Cougar Motors LED’s for the Low Beams and they look great and give me plenty of visibility at night (my personal preference).

Since they worked so well I ordered another set for the fogs.

The picture is hard to tell, but shows the original DRL on the left and new XD DRL LED on the right.

I misspoke. The fire extinguisher is rock sold, but the weight of it does cause the Molle rack to rattle over bumps. I really only noticed this when I have my hearing aids in!

Installed some new FX Pro wheels

Installed Bilstein 5100s front and rear with Dobinsons 302/505 (2.5/1.5") springs.

The Bilstein 5100s apparently corrode pretty easily (see someone elses pic here: https://www.toyota-4runner.org/atta...00-after-6-months-img_20130710_193333_725-jpg

so I sprayed them with a few coats of clear a few days ago.

Now, after getting an alignment, I need to have my TPMS swapped over to my Bronze 17x8.5 SCS F5s and have the 285/70s mounted up. The lift made these OEM sized Falken Wildpeaks look tiny. I will be selling the TRD Pro wheels with 265/70r17s mounted up here soon. 12k miles on them, both purchased brand new.

Is there any reason why you can't just swap the upper grill with an older version that has no chrome strips at all?

I'm pretty sure the only reason they added those was to distract the eye from that huge TSS radar block in the lower grill.

I got the last set available here in Calgary and got the same answer on availability so I just jumped on them.

The 0 offset vs the +15 of the OEM on give a nice stance to the 4R but on ours ( with no lift) and the 255/80 tires it rubbed a little... easy fixed.

It's driving me crazy that I can't find it again but I did see someone asking if a 2020 non-pro grill would fit their TE model. Could be worth searching and maybe swapping. There's also a 2018 grille assembly FS in the classifieds right now.
