Road trip. 2.5 hours of corn-land highway up to west of Lake Erie.
Once there I left the 4Runner in a place where it had no friends and stood out like a sore thumb. Then I went and drove something else for about 30 minutes. It has this weird abbreviation on the front from another language: Bayerische Motoren Werke
Damn it felt good to drive a manual transmission again, and I'll soon be driving it on a much more regular basis! Don't worry, the 4Runner won't be going anywhere. I still need the off-road fun, the cargo room, dog hauler, and boat towing machine.
I've not even taken delivery yet, and I've been accused of purchasing a "mid-life crisis" vehicle!

I took him on his first off road trip to have fun at Hidden Falls Adventure Park.

Nothing like an all stock 4Runner getting after some rough terrain.

It was nice to figure out some of the capabilities and limits (Crawl control feels like cheating and when I scrubbed my skid plate riding in a rut).

Roof rails

I took off the roof rails and bed linered them. Happy with the results. Put butyl on the rubber gaskets and used blue Lock Tight on the bolts. I hope there's no leaks. I'm tired now but tomorrow I'll give it a wash and look to see if roof liner is wet any place.

Between yesterday and this morning, I did what I could to reshape my Antics footwell fuse box cover for 2020. It had fallen out while on the street yesterday. I used a couple old Neo Geo MVS video game cartridges, a hifi ferrite core clip on thingy, a couple jars of salsa, a hair dryer, my fingers, and my brain. I was able to get the 3D printed style bend mostly out of the unit with weight and gravity and reshape some of the plastic with my fingers after getting it really hot so the clips will ideally hold better. I put the cover on this afternoon, and it went on easier this time than it ever did when I first got it new. I'm hoping that means it'll remain in good working order this time.

Awesome, thanks for the detail! Yeah I'd love to hear thoughts after your alignment and trip. I don't anticipate adding weight in the near term if I were to do this, but even with a little more height in front this should work well. Looks great and thanks again.

Hey I haven't forgot. It has fully settled at 21.5 in the front with that heavy 50 pound RSG skid plate and 23" in the back.

So a total of 1.5" front and 1" in back.

It drives great after the alignment, actually better stock. It also did awesome on some easy trails at Cline Butte OHV. Our Friends couldn't make it last minute so we played it safe. Beautiful ride on and off road. It's my wifes daily driver and body roll and and nose dives have decreased greatly on pavement.

Not the cheapest small lift but well worth it. Now that she knows what a good proper lift can do.... oh yeah it's going bigger.

So, I few months ago I bought some Yakima bars of FB Marketplace for my Chevy Duramax so I could carry kayaks to coast. When I went to the sellers house he was cleaning his garage out and told me to take this cargo basket as well. Score! A free basket! I looked it over last week and it turns out it is a Rola. It looked way to small for the roof of my 2500 so I went on the hunt to find a way to mount it to 4Runner. 4Xinnovations sells brackets that fit in the factory side rails and makes the rack super sturdy. A whole lot better than than attaching to the factory crossbars. Anyway, the free cargo rack ended up costing me $80.00 in new brackets but still not too shabby. Maybe I will end up plasti-dipping the side rail black but it works in any color I guess.
